Engstrom was scratched for two straight games, so a demotion to the Rocket shouldn't come as a surprise. He appeared in two games while with the Canadiens, logging two shots on net, two blocked shots and a hit. It's unclear if he'll be called up again prior to Saturday's game versus the Maple Leafs.

Engstrom has been recalled by the Canadiens from AHL Laval, the team announced Sunday
One day after recording five points for AHL Laval, Engstrom has been brought up to join the NHL club. The 22-year-old has 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 18 games at the AHL level. Should he appear in a game with the Canadiens, it would be the first NHL appearance of his career. Whether that will happen remains to be seen considering Montreal's six defensemen are pretty set at the moment.

Engstrom scored a goal and added four assists in AHL Laval's 7-2 win over Belleville on Saturday.
Engstrom has scored in three straight games, but it was the four assists that made this a magnificent performance for the defenseman. He's now at five goals and 14 points through 18 appearances for Laval in his second AHL campaign. Engstrom is well on his way to improving from his 27-point effort in the 2024-25 regular season, which could make him a call-up option later this year.

Engstrom made it to the final day of training camp, which should speak to how close he might be to breaking into the NHL. The 20-year-old blueliner has yet to make his NHL debut but certainly looks poised to do so at some point during the 2024-25 campaign. Still, the Swede is unlikely to be a full-time contributor at any point, barring a rough stretch of injuries, so fantasy managers in single-season formats can likely overlook him for now.
