Maple Leafs' Sam Lafferty: Expected to practice Sunday

Lafferty (personal) is expected to be back at practice Sunday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Lafferty missed the last three games of the regular season as he was dealing with a personal matter. Coach Sheldon Keefe said Saturday that Lafferty was on his way back to Toronto. Look for Lafferty -- who had 12 goals and 15 assists with 125 hits in 70 games this season -- to be in the lineup for Game 1 versus Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Lafferty will miss his third consecutive game. He has 12 goals and 15 assists in 70 games this season, including two tallies and six points in 19 games as a Maple Leaf. Expect to see Lafferty back in the lineup for Game 1 versus Tampa Bay next week in the playoffs.

This was Lafferty's second assist in eight games following his trade from the Blackhawks. He remains a bottom-six contributor, albeit with a spot on the penalty kill and the No. 2 power-play unit. Lafferty showed flashes of offensive potential based on 10 goals and 11 assists through 51 games with Chicago, but he's likely to be skipped over in most fantasy formats since he's not too familiar of a name and is averaging only 13:16 of ice time with the Buds.
Lafferty was traded to the Leafs on Tuesday from the Blackhawks, along with Jake McCabe and fifth-round picks in 2024 and 2025, in exchange for Joey Anderson, Pavel Gogolev, a 2025 first-round pick and a 2026 second-round selection.
Lafferty's move shouldn't come as a surprise after he was a healthy scratch against the Sharks on Saturday in order to make sure he didn't suffer an injury before the trade deadline. Despite playing on the lowly Hawks, the 27-year-old winger still managed to generate 10 goals and 11 assists in 51 games this season. While he's unlikely to push for a top-six role with his new club, Lafferty should bolster the bottom six.
