Logan Day: Cut loose by Edmonton
Day won't receive a qualifying offer from the Oilers, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agent Friday.
Day was passable in the minors this season, picking up 16 points while racking up 53 PIM in 48 games, but he's already 26 years old, and clearly isn't part of Edmonton's plans for the future. He'll hope to land a two-way deal with another organization.

Oilers' Logan Day: Sent down to minors
Day (hand) was activated off non-roster injured reserve and reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Thursday.
Day suffered an injury during training camp, which required him to start the year on injured reserve. With the blueliner healthy, he will link up with the Condors. Last season, the 25-year-old registered seven goals and 27 helpers with Bakersfield and will likely need to wait at least another year before getting his chance to break into the NHL.

Oilers' Logan Day: Will go under knife
Day will undergo hand surgery, Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Day's timeline for recovery still isn't clear, but it's likely he'll miss the rest of the preseason. Since he can't be sent down to minors while injured, he may begin the season on the Oilers' injured reserve until he's healthy again.

Until cleared to play, Day can't be sent down to the minors, which means he could start the year on injured reserve if his problem lingers. Once given the green light, the blueliner will link up with AHL Bakersfield, where he'll likely spend the bulk of the year.
