I saw it coming last week, but I didn't want to say anything. As ridiculous as it sounds, I was worried I'd jinx it, and I couldn't bear the idea of coming so close to something magnificent, only for it all to blow up in my face.

So I stayed quiet.

I kept my mouth shut, crossed my fingers and hoped for the best.

And it happened.

It's an historic week here in The Bottom 25, as we've not only set a new record for most Power Five teams to be ranked in any given week, we've crushed it. The previous record for any week had been six Power Five teams in The Bottom 25.

This week we have 10.

That's a full 40 percent of the field! It's truly a wondruous week here, and we need to celebrate it while we still can, because a few of these teams will be playing one another in the coming weeks, and will fall out of the rankings because of it.

Before we find out which 10 Power Fives are ranked this week, let's go over how these rankings work just one more time.

1. My opinion has absolutely nothing to do with the rankings. They are based on a mathematical formula of my creation. Keep this in mind before you call me an idiot, which I know you will.

2. There is true equality to start. Math doesn't play favorites. Before the season begins, defending national champion Alabama is just as good as our defending Bottom 25 champion Central Florida. The only factor that matters in the rankings is how you've performed on the field in 2016.

3. Wins and losses mean more than anything. I have a lot of different statistics involved, and I factor in strength of schedule (remember, everybody begins the season with the same SOS), but at the end of the day whether you won or lost is going to mean more than anything else. Also, my formula doesn't have much respect for FCS teams.

4. I won't share the formula. I just don't want to. I'm not a mathematician. I know my formula isn't perfect. I don't think a perfect formula can exist, so I don't share it because I don't care what anybody thinks about it. So don't ask.

25. Kent State, 3-6 (Last week: 17): Was not expecting Kent State to beat Central Michigan on the road, but it happened. It just wasn't enough to get out of here quite yet.

Last week: 27-24 win at Central Michigan | Next week: No game

24. Michigan State, 2-6 (Not ranked): In case losing to your biggest rival wasn't bad enough, Michigan State is the first team in college football history to go from the College Football Playoff one season and The Bottom 25 the next. Congrats, Sparty!

Last week: 32-23 loss vs. Michigan | Next week: at Illinois

23. Virginia, 2-6 (NR): The Cavaliers came so close to pulling off a major upset against Louisville, but didn't, and now they're back here.

Last week: 32-25 loss vs. Louisville | Next week: at Wake Forest

22. Missouri, 2-6 (NR): In case Mizzou's 2-6 record doesn't look bad enough, what if I point out the two wins have come against Eastern Michigan and Delaware State? How does it look then?

Last week: 35-21 loss vs. Kentucky | Next week: at South Carolina

21. Florida International, 3-6 (NR): One of my editors here at CBS Sports is that rare person who not only went to FIU, but actually cares about FIU football. Like, enough to get upset about it when the Panthers lose. He was so happy when the Panthers dropped out of the rankings last week, I can't wait to see his reaction when he works on this piece.

Last week: 42-35 loss vs Middle Tennessee | Next week: at Western Kentucky

20. Purdue, 3-5 (NR): Hey, Purdue. How ya been? Haven't seen you in a while. Where's Darrell Hazell?

Last week: 62-24 loss vs. Penn State | Next week: at Minnesota

19. Oregon State, 2-6 (22): The Beavers took a 21-0 lead on Washington State on Saturday night, and just when you thought a strange Saturday was going to get even stranger, the Beavers blew their lead and ended up losing 35-31 to restore order.

Last week: 35-31 loss vs. Washington State | Next week: at Stanford

18. Arizona, 2-6 (23): With the rate Wildcats players are going down, this will be an intramural team by the time the season ends.

Last week: 34-10 loss vs. Stanford | Next week: at Washington State

17. Illinois, 2-6 (20): Illinois has beaten Murray State and Rutgers. In its other six games, it is being outscored by an average of 20.5 points per game.

Last week: 40-17 loss vs. Minnesota | Next week: vs. Michigan State

16. Charlotte, 3-5 (15): The 49ers had last week off.

Last week: No game | Next week: at Southern Miss

15. UTEP, 2-6 (14): Beating Houston Baptist this week probably won't be enough to get UTEP out of The Bottom 25. Maybe if it were playing Dallas Presbyterian.

Last week: 31-21 loss vs. Old Dominion | Next week: vs. Houston Baptist

14. New Mexico State, 2-6 (16): By the time this season is over, New Mexico State's win over New Mexico earlier this season will be one of the biggest head-scratchers of the year.

Last week: 52-10 loss at Texas A&M | Next week: No game

13. Iowa State, 1-7 (13): The Cyclones just have to get through Oklahoma with a loss on a short week and then it's a major showdown with Kansas. Don't want to get caught looking ahead, though.

Last week: 31-26 loss vs. Kansas State | Next week: vs. Oklahoma

12. Buffalo, 2-6 (2): Buffalo went ahead and put up 42 points on Akron this week, possibly blowing its Bottom 25 title chances in the process.

Last week: 41-20 win vs. Akron | Next week: at Ohio

11. San Jose State, 3-6 (7): Don't look now, but San Jose State has won two of its last three games...and it's still ranked No. 11 here.

Last week: 30-24 win vs. UNLV | Next week: at Boise State

10. UMass, 2-7 (10): I was going to make a classical music joke here about Wagner, but I remembered I already did that earlier this season when Boston College beat it. I wish I could go Bach in time to erase it so I could put it here instead.

Last week: 34-10 win vs. Wagner | Next week: at Troy

9. Texas State, 2-5 (9): The Bobcats had the week off.

Last week: No game | Next week: at Appalachian State

8. Marshall, 2-6 (12): I keep waiting for Marshall to wake the hell up and start playing good football again, but it just doesn't happen.

Last week: 24-14 loss at Southern Miss | Next week: at Old Dominion

7. Rutgers, 2-6 (6): Rutgers had the week off, and it was the best Saturday the fine people of New Jersey have had in a long time.

Last week: No game | Next week: vs. Indiana

6. UL-Monroe, 2-6 (11): The Warhawks have gone from No. 17 to No. 6 in two weeks. That's what happens when you lose two games by a combined score of 110-27.

Last week: 51-10 loss at Arkansas State | Next week: vs. South Alabama

5. Fresno State, 1-8 (4): After yet another loss, we're still waiting for Fresno State to beat an FBS opponent this season.

Last week: 31-21 loss vs. Air Force | Next week: at Colorado State

4. Bowling Green, 1-7 (3): The Falcons had last week off, and like Fresno State, they still haven't beaten an FBS team.

Last week: No game | Next week: at Northern Illinois

3. Florida Atlantic, 1-7 (8): The Owls haven't beaten an FBS team this season, and jump to the Bottom Three following a 49-point loss to Western Kentucky.

Last week: 52-3 loss vs. Western Kentucky | Next week: at Rice

2. Rice, 1-7 (5): Rice is yet to beat an FBS team this season, but this week it takes on Florida Atlantic in our Bottom 25 Game of the Century of the Week.

Last week: 61-16 loss at Louisiana Tech | Next week: vs. FAU

1. Kansas, 1-7 (1): The Jayhawks haven't beaten a single FBS team this season, and are you starting to notice the theme yet? The theme is if you can't beat FBS teams, you have a very good shot at winning a Bottom 25 title!

Last week: 56-3 loss at Oklahoma | Next week: at West Virginia

No Longer Ranked: Nevada, Georgia State, Miami (Ohio), East Carolina, Arkansas State
