Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins will miss Saturday's game at Boston College with an abdominal virus. (US Presswire) |
SEC Injury Report
QB Maxwell Smith, Kentucky, (shoulder)
Next game: vs. No. 6 South Carolina, Saturday, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
The Wildcats’ signal caller missed last weekend’s rout to Florida with a separated shoulder but practiced on Tuesday and is expected to start this weekend against South Carolina. Smith is second in the SEC in passing percentage (68.5 percent) and is fourth with 966 yards through the air.
TE Chris Gragg, Arkansas, (leg)
Next game: at Texas A&M, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (SEC Network)
Gragg is listed as day-to-day for Saturday’s game against Texas A&M, offensive coordinator Paul Petrino said. Gragg suffered a bone bruise in last weekend’s loss to Rutgers. The senior is second on the team with 19 catches for 234 yards and two touchdowns.
QB Bo Wallace, Mississippi, (shoulder)
Next game: at No. 1 Alabama, Saturday, 9:15 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Wallace left last weekend’s game vs. Tulane after getting hit in his shoulder but is fully expected to start Saturday’s game against the Tide. Mississippi coach Huge Freeze noted that his backup, Barry Brunetti, is fully capable if Wallace were to get hurt. Wallace (717 yards passing, seven touchdowns) has guided the Rebels to 36.8 ppg, the 29th most in the country.
LB Zaviar Gooden, Missouri, (hamstring)
Next game: at Central Florida, 12 p.m. ET
Coach Gary Pinkel said that Gooden tweaked his hamstring in last week’s loss to South Carolina and will not play Saturday vs. Central Florida. He initially sustained the injury against Georgia on Sept. 8. On the season he has 15 tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown.
DE Abry Jones, Georgia, (ankle)
Next game: vs. Tennessee, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
Jones missed practice on Tuesday but merely to rest his ankle. He’s expected to start Saturday against the Volunteers, according to defensive coordinator Todd Grantham. The Bulldogs will need him to create pressure in the pocket against Tennessee’s eighth ranked passing offense (341 ypg).
Big East Injury Report
FB Michael Burton, Rutgers, (lower leg)
Next game: vs. Connecticut, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Burton is out after suffering a season-ending leg injury in last weekend’s win at Arkansas. The fullback doesn’t touch the ball much but his blocking is crucial for starting halfback Jawan Jamison, who leads the conference with 491 rushing yards.
RB Dominique Brown, Louisville, (knee)
Next game: at Southern Miss, Saturday, 8 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network)
Brown is listed as questionable for Saturday’s game. The Cardinals’ leading rusher last year hasn’t played all season with a “tender knee” and it’s becoming a question of whether the junior should consider redshirting. His backups, Senorise Perry and Jeremy Wright, have combined for 645 yards and eight touchdowns in just four games.
WR Anthony McClung, Cincinnati, (elbow)
Next game: vs. Virginia Tech, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
McClung injured his elbow in the win over Delaware State on Sept. 15 and the Bearcats’ bye week may have allowed him enough recovery time. In two games he’s caught six passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. The Bearcats could use all the help they can get against the Hokies, who are allowing just 14.8 points per game.
ACC Injury Report
OL Rob Crisp, NC State, (lower back)
Next game: at Miami (FL), Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
The Wolfpack will be without Crisp as well as T Andrew Wallace (ankle) for Saturday’s game against the Hurricanes. North Carolina State was already a pass first offense (245 ypg) but without the two offensive linemen, quarterback Mike Glennon (six TDs, four interceptions) will likely air it out even more than the 33.5 attempts he’s averaged through four games. The Hurricanes’ secondary has three interceptions on the year. Running back Tony Creecy, who missed last week’s game vs. the Citadel, is expected to return from an undisclosed injury.
LB Denzel Perryman, Miami, (ankle)
Next game: vs. NC State, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Perryman will miss his second straight game on Saturday due to a high-ankle sprain he sustained against Bethune-Cookman on Sept. 15. The sophomore had 16 tackles on the year and an interception returned for a touchdown but missed last week’s overtime win vs. Georgia Tech.
WR Martavis Bryant, Clemson, (undisclosed)
Next game: at Boston College, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Bryant will miss the next two games after suffering an undisclosed injury while working out. He has just two catches on the year but both have gone for touchdowns. The Tigers’ passing attack shouldn’t suffer much with five other receivers who already have double-digit catches this season.
WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson (abdominal virus)
Next game: at Boston College, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Watkins is suffering from an abdominal virus that forced him to cut practice short on Tuesday and Wednesday. The star wideout won't travel with the team to take on Boston College, coach Dabo Swinney said. The Tigers will be without Watkins for the third time in five games this season.
WR Bobby Swigert, Boston College, (knee)
Next game: vs. Clemson, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
The junior hasn’t played at all this year but is expected to play Saturday for the first time. The Eagles were already one of the better passing teams in the ACC and Swigert’s return – he was the leading receiver last year with 44 catches – bolsters their receiving depth.
NT Nikita Whitlock, Wake Forest, (ankle)
Next game: vs. Duke, Saturday, 12:30 p.m. ET (ESPN3)
Whitlock has missed the past two games but insists he’ll be on the field for the Demon Deacons’ game on Saturday. The coaches, however, aren’t so sure. “We’ll see. To be honest with you, I’ve got my doubts,” coach John Grobe told the Winston Salem Journal. Wake has been gashed for 89 points in the past two games while Duke has posted 92 points on its last two opponents, both wins.
Big 12 Injury Report
RB Shawne Alston, West Virginia, (thigh)
Next game: vs. No. 25 Baylor, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (FOX)
Alston missed last weekend’s game vs. Maryland with a thigh bruise and is listed as day-to-day for this weekend’s game. Against the Terrapins, West Virginia managed just 25 yards on 25 carries. Alston has 185 yards and three touchdowns in two games this season. Baylor let up 262 yards rushing last weekend to Louisiana-Monroe.
QB Wes Lunt, Oklahoma State, (knee)
Next game: vs. No. 12 Texas, Saturday, 7:50 p.m. ET (FOX)
The Oklahoma State depth chart lists Lunt “or” freshman J.W. Walsh as the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Texas. Lunt injured his left knee in the first quarter of the Sept. 15 game against Louisiana-Lafayette and has had had it in a cast since Monday and throughout the Cowboys’ bye week. Doctors exchanged the cast for a removable brace earlier this week but coach Mike Gundy isn’t calling it either way.
RB, Joe Bergeron, Texas, (shoulder)
Next game: at Oklahoma State, Saturday, 7:50 p.m. ET (FOX)
Bergeron, the team’s second-leading rusher, is questionable for Saturday’s game. Linebacker Jordan Hicks (hip) and K Anthony Fera (groin) are questionable as well. The Longhorns are stable at running back with Malcolm Brown, who has 238 yards and three touchdowns and are OK without Fera as Nick Jordan has nailed 16 of 17 PAT. The Longhorns, though, are thin at weakside linebacker and would miss Hicks’ 17 tackles thus far, especially against Oklahoma State, who averages 308 yards on the ground.
Oregon State's quarterback Sean Mannion had a sore arm all week that limited him in practice but he's expected to play Saturday vs. Arizona. (US Presswire) |
Pac-12 Injury Report
WR Terrence Miller, Arizona, (shoulder)
Next game: vs. No. 18 Oregon State, Saturday, 10 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Miller is questionable for the Wildcats’ game against the Beavers on Saturday. Miller injured his shoulder against South Carolina State on Sept. 15 and missed last week’s pounding by Oregon. On the season, he has 10 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.
DL Josh Tupou, Colorado, (head)
Next game: vs. UCLA, Saturday, 6 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Tupou and linebacker Paul Vigo are both day-to-day and are each recovering from concussions. Both will be necessary against the Bruins’ prolific offense, which is 14th in the country in rushing yards (251) and 13th in passing (326 ypg). The Buffaloes have conceded 38.8 ppg so far this year, the 117th most in the country.
T Matt Summers-Gavin, California, (knee)
Next game: vs. Arizona State, Saturday, 4:00 p.m. ET (FX)
The senior tackle is listed as day-to-day for Saturday’s matchup against the Sun Devils. Summers-Gavin has missed the past three games and California is coming off of back-to-back losses to Ohio State and USC.
QB Sean Mannion, Oregon State, (shoulder)
Next game: at Arizona, Saturday, 10:00 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Mannion, who’s orchestrated two huge wins (Wisconsin, UCLA) for the over-achieving Beavers, has a sore arm but is still expected to play against the Wildcats. “When you’ve got a sore arm, you just kind of get through it. The fact of the matter is he’s throwing, and I’m encouraged by that,” Coach Mike Riley told Lindsay Schnell of the Oregonian.
LB Jordan Zumwalt, UCLA, (head)
Next game: at Colorado, Saturday, 6:00 p.m. ET (Pac-12 Network)
Zumwalt, the fifth-leading tackler on the Bruins (16), will miss Saturday’s game against Colorado after needing stitches on his head as the result of a scooter collision. His absence shouldn’t affect the game dramatically as the Bruins are 20-point favorites over the Buffaloes.
Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has "no doubt" he'll play against Nebraska on Saturday night after suffering from a concussion in last week's win over UTEP. (Getty Images) |
Big Ten Injury Report
RB Bill Belton, Penn State, (ankle)
Next game: at Illinois, 12 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Belton hasn’t played since injuring his ankle in the fourth quarter of the season opener against Ohio but he practiced in full on Wednesday and is expected to play against the Fighting Illini. Banged up backs Michael Zordich and Derek Day are expected to play as well. Defensive end Pete Massaro, who’s missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, probably won’t play according to coach Bill O’Brien.
RB Montee Ball, Wisconsin, (head)
Next game: at No. 22 Nebraska, Saturday, 8:00 p.m. ET (ABC)
Ball came out of the game early in last Saturday’s win over UTEP after sustaining a concussion on a touchdown run but is expected to play Saturday against the Cornhuskers. “I’m going to play, no doubt,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
RB Carlos Hyde, Ohio State, (knee)
Next game: at No. 20 Michigan State, Saturday, 3:30 p.m ET (ABC)
Hyde, who’s missed the last two games with a knee injury suffered against Central Florida on Sept. 8, is probable for Saturday’s game against the Spartans. The Buckeyes have a number of capable rushers, not including Braxton Miller. Running back Jordan Hall rushed for a career-high 105 yards last week against UAB.
QB Nathan Scheelhaase, Illinois, (ankle)
Next game: vs. Penn State, Saturday, 12 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Scheelhaase tried to return last week from an ankle injury suffered on Sept. 1 against Western Michigan but was pulled for backup Reilly O’Toole. Scheelhaase practiced on Tuesday and is expected to start vs. the Nittany Lions. If he falters or isn’t fully recovered, O’Toole is a viable backup. On the year he’s thrown for 514 yards and six touchdowns.
DE Ryan Russell, Purdue, (knee)
Next game: vs. Marshall, Saturday, 3:15 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network)
Russell suffered an MCL sprain in the rout of Eastern Michigan on Sept. 15 and had since rested during Purdue’s bye week. “[The time off] helped out and I’m glad we had it,” Russell said to Mike Carmin of the Journal and Courier. “I’m ready to go out and give it 100 percent again.”
