Pittsburgh will wear 'Pitt Script' helmets for the rest of 2014
Pittsburgh announced Friday that its football team will wear a throwback design on its helmet decal for the rest of the 2014 season.
Pittsburgh will switch the design on its helmets from block letters to the classic script letters worn by many of the Panthers' most successful teams. The script "Pitt" helmet was debuted on Twitter via the athletic department, though an additional bit of news is even more exciting.

According to Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Jerry DiPaola and Rivals' Panther Lair, Pitt will not only wear the helmets against Georgia Tech but also for the remainder of the 2014 schedule. We have seen schools use one-time opportunities to test throwback looks, but this is a full commitment in the heart of the ACC Coastal Division race.

While a three-game slide tempered some early season excitement, Pitt is still very much in a wide-open race with a 2-1 conference record and the head-to-head advantage against Virginia Tech.
The Panthers share that record with Duke and Virginia at the top of the standings, and a win against Georgia Tech would boost the chances of winning a tiebreaker. Given the erratic state of the ACC Coastal, a tiebreaker scenario will likely be needed to determine the division's representative in the ACC Championship Game.
