Malgeri went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI during the Tigers' 9-5 loss to the White Sox on Friday.

Malgeri put the Tigers on the board in the second inning with a two-run homer before adding a solo blast in the seventh. It was the first multi-homer game of Malgeri's major-league career, and he's up to three long balls on the season. Since making his big-league debut June 23, he's gone 15-for-53 (.283) with 10 RBI and five extra-base hits.

  • Trent Grisham CF | NYY

Yankees' Trent Grisham: Goes deep at Rogers Centre

Grisham went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during the Yankees' 3-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Friday.

Gerrit Cole and Shane Bieber were locked in a pitchers' duel Friday, but Grisham was responsible for the game's first run with a 359-foot solo homer in the sixth inning. Grisham has been white hot at the plate as of late, having gone 10-for-21 with four home runs, eight RBI and three doubles over his last five games. He's up to a .740 OPS with seven steals, 16 home runs and 51 RBI across 407 plate appearances this season.

  • Rays' Victor Mesa: Dealing with hamstring tightness

Mesa was removed from Friday's game against the Orioles with left hamstring tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Manager Kevin Cash said after the game that he doesn't believe Mesa is dealing with anything serious and can be considered day-to-day. If Mesa ends up having to sit out a game or two, Jonny DeLuca would figure to take over as Tampa Bay's right fielder.

  • Cody Freeman 3B | TEX

Rangers' Cody Freeman: Back in big leagues

The Rangers recalled Freeman from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Freeman was optioned to Triple-A after returning from the injured list Aug. 4 and has since gone 8-for-29 (.276) with a home run, four RBI and seven runs scored in 33 plate appearances. He'll now rejoin the parent club to provide utility depth, replacing Cam Cauley.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Rays' Jake Fraley: Nearing return to game action

Manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Fraley (hernia) is scheduled to play a few games at the team's complex in Florida before beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fraley landed on the injured list in May due to a hernia that required surgery, though setbacks have extended his time on the shelf. It's unclear how far away he is from rejoining the active roster, but he's likely to spend a good amount of time in the minors after missing nearly three months.

  • Taylor Ward RF | SEA

Mariners' Taylor Ward: Out again Friday

Ward (quadriceps) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Houston.

Ward missed Thursday's game against the Yankees due to quad tightness, and his injury will now force him to sit out Friday's series opener as well. Randy Arozarena, Victor Robles and Dominic Canzone will start across the outfield with Ward out, and Julio Rodriguez will work as the DH.

  • Jo Adell RF | CLE

Guardians' Jo Adell: Not starting Friday

Adell is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.

Adell has started eight of nine games since being acquired by Cleveland but will get a breather against Padres right-hander Michael King. With the Guardians, Adell is slashing just .152/.293/.394 with two home runs, four RBI, five runs scored and a 5:10 BB:K across 41 plate appearances. Angel Martinez and Chase DeLauter are manning the corner outfield spots for Cleveland on Friday.

  • Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Night off Friday

Rafaela is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates.

Rafaela is getting his first night off since June 20. Over the last 15 days, Rafaela is slashing .344/.364/.623 with five home runs, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored, three stolen bases and a 1:11 BB:K. Eli White is batting ninth and starting in center field Friday.

  • Mike Trout CF | LAA

Angels' Mike Trout: Three more knocks Thursday

Trout went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 7-0 win over the Rangers.

This was Trout's second three-hit effort in a row, and he's also driven in five runs over his last seven games. The veteran outfielder is batting .273 (12-for-44) in August, lifting himself up to a .245 average on the year. He's added an .837 OPS, 20 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 45 RBI and 69 runs scored over 103 games.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Activated from 10-day IL

The Twins activated Buxton (hip) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Buxton's progress from a right hip impingement was slow going initially, but he got through a full workout this week with no issues to clear the way for his return to action. It's possible the Twins will give him some extra time at designated hitter in order to protect his hip, but fantasy managers will receive a nice boost from being able to re-insert Buxton into their lineup.
