  • James Outman CF | DET

Tigers' James Outman: Pops homer in rout

Outman went 1-for-1 with a solo home run in Sunday's 11-0 win over the Athletics.

Outman took position player Carlos Cortes deep in the ninth inning for the last run of the game. Outman looks to be firmly in a reserve role, as the Tigers prefer an outfield of Riley Greene, Max Clark and Zach McKinstry from left to right against right-handed pitchers. All three of them are left-handed hitters, as is Outman, who will have to settle for a bench role until opportunities open up. On the year, Outman is batting .168 with a .544 OPS, five homers, 17 RBI, 22 runs scored, four doubles, two triples and six stolen bases over 167 plate appearances between Detroit and Minnesota.

  • Twins' Emmanuel Rodriguez: Aggravates thumb injury on rehab

Rodriguez was scratched from the lineup for his rehab game Sunday at High-A Cedar Rapids due to soreness in his surgically repaired right thumb, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Rodriguez has been on Triple-A St. Paul's injured list since May 6 due to the thumb injury but appeared to be on the cusp of returning to action for the Twins' top affiliate after kicking off a rehab assignment at Single-A Fort Myers early last week. He appeared in three games in the Florida State League before shifting his assignment to Cedar Rapids on Friday, but he's still waiting to appear for the Twins' Midwest League affiliate while he waits for the soreness in his thumb to subside. The Twins are viewing the outfielder as day-to-day.

  • Wade Meckler LF | LAA

Angels' Wade Meckler: Provides key homer in win

Meckler went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.

Meckler made the most of his first at-bat, tagging Jacob Misiorowski for a 388-foot homer to right-center field. That was ultimately all the offense the Angels needed in this win. It's just the third homer of the season for Meckler, whose last long ball came May 30 versus the Rays. He's batting .295 with a .780 OPS, 19 RBI, 20 runs scored, nine doubles and three stolen bases over 165 plate appearances. The outfielder is currently in a part-time role, battling with Jose Siri and Josh Lowe for time in left field, though more playing time could open up if the Angels trade away an outfielder or two prior to Monday's trade deadline.

  • Jacob Melton LF | TB

Rays' Jacob Melton: Nursing hamstring issue

Melton exited Triple-A Durham's game against Gwinnett on Saturday due to right hamstring tightness, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 25-year-old has played in just 36 games for Durham this season, missing time on account of a left ankle issue and now because of a hamstring injury. Melton has produced a .285/.381/.520 slash line with five home runs and 23 steals with Durham.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Rays' Jake Fraley: Sent to 60-day IL

The Rays transferred Fraley (hernia) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Freddy Peralta, whom the Rays acquired in a deal with the Mets. Fraley had already been on the shelf since May 17 while recovering from hernia surgery, so his move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline to rejoin the big club. The outfielder was pulled off a rehab assignment in early July after experiencing some discomfort in his groin area, and it's unclear when he might be ready to return to action in the minors.

  • Carlos Cortes LF | ATH

Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Back in lineup Sunday

Cortes will serve as the Athletics' designated hitter and No. 6 batter in Sunday's game against the Tigers.

The left-handed-hitting Cortes had started just once in the last eight games, though he had a bit of an unlucky runout with the Athletics facing just one right-handed starter during that stretch. Cortes should be fairly secure in a strong-side platoon role until the Athletics get at least two of Zack Gelof (knee), Denzel Clarke (hamstring) and Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (testicle) back from the injured list.

  • Riley Greene LF | DET

Tigers' Riley Greene: Receiving breather Sunday

Greene is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Greene will exit the lineup for the first time since June 29 in what appears to be a planned rest day. Ben Malgeri will step in for Greene in left field and will bat eighth.

  • Jose Siri LF | LAA

Angels' Jose Siri: Stuck in platoon role

Siri is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

After drawing starts in left field in the first two contests of the series while the Brewers sent a pair of lefties to the mound, the right-handed-hitting Siri will move back to the bench while righty Jacob Misiorowski toes the rubber for Milwaukee in the finale. Siri owns a strong .771 OPS over 120 plate appearances with the Angels this season, but he appears to be stuck in the short side of a platoon in the outfield while all of Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, Jo Adell and Josh Lowe are available.

  • Royals' Isaac Collins: Taking seat Sunday

Collins is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Collins will receive a breather after he went 7-for-35 (.200 average) with one home run, three runs and two RBI while starting in each of the Royals' last 10 games. Starling Marte will replace Collins in left field and will bat fifth.

  • Kyle Isbel CF | KC

Royals' Kyle Isbel: Activated, but not in lineup

The Royals reinstated Isbel (foot) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Isbel has completed his recovery from a Grade 3 tear of his left plantar fascia, an injury that had kept him on the shelf since June 10. However, with southpaw Kyle Freeland on the hill for the Rockies, the left-handed hitter will stay on the bench for now. Isbel was productive during his nine-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha with an .878 OPS, but he slashed just .244/.298/.354 with three home runs and five stolen bases in 56 games with Kansas City before suffering the foot injury.
