Jose Fermin LF | STL
Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Sitting in third straight game
Fermin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Fermin is on the bench for a third straight game and looks like he'll be ticketed for a short-side platoon role in the St. Louis infield. The Cardinals have been prioritizing Bryan Torres, Thomas Saggese and Nolan Gorman ahead of Fermin against right-handed pitching while all of Masyn Winn (thumb), JJ Wetherholt (wrist) and Blaze Jordan (ankle) are on the injured list.

Bryan Torres LF | STL
Cardinals' Bryan Torres: Third straight start in leadoff spot
Torres will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Torres will set the table for the Cardinals for the fifth time in seven contests after going 3-for-9 with three walks, two runs and an RBI in his prior four starts. He appears primed to handle a strong-side platoon role for the Cardinals while three key infielders (JJ Wetherholt, Masyn Winn and Blaze Jordan) are all on the injured list.

Zac Veen LF | COL
Rockies' Zac Veen: Not in Sunday's lineup
Veen is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Veen has gone 4-for-22 (.182 average) with 12 strikeouts in his past 14 contests and will take a seat Sunday for the fourth time in the past seven games. Jake McCarthy, Cole Carrigg and Troy Johnston will start from left to right in the outfield Sunday while Mickey Moniak serves as the designated hitter.

Ian Happ LF | CHC
Cubs' Ian Happ: Scratched with knee issue
Happ was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins due to left knee discomfort, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
It's unclear when exactly the injury surfaced for Happ, who started the past four games and went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI in Saturday's contest. Tyrone Taylor will instead start in left field in the series finale at Miami.

Ryan Waldschmidt CF | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Out of starting nine
Waldschmidt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
The 23-year-old started the first two games of the series and will sit for Sunday's finale after going 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts. Jordan Lawlar will take Waldschmidt's place in center field while batting ninth.

Jake Mangum CF | PIT
Pirates' Jake Mangum: Sitting after four straight starts
Mangum is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Mangum will be riding pine for the series finale after he started in each of the Pirates' previous four games while going 3-for-12 with a double, a walk, two runs and two RBI during that stretch. The 30-year-old outfielder has noticed only a slight downturn in playing time since Oneil Cruz returned from the injured list Aug. 18, but Mangum could see his opportunities dwindle a bit more when Ryan O'Hearn (quadriceps) likely comes back from the IL during the upcoming week.

The 25-year-old recorded his first multi-hit performance of the season and is now slashing .143/.262/.304 with 11 runs scored, four stolen bases, three RBI and two long balls across 68 plate appearances in 2026.

Reds' Carlos Jorge: Sitting versus southpaw
Jorge is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.
Jorge was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Friday and made his first MLB start Saturday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. The 22-year-old will shift to the bench Sunday as lefty Kyle Harrison takes the mound for Milwaukee, with Jorge expected to continue operating on the strong side of a platoon in center field moving forward. Dane Myers is starting in center and batting leadoff for Cincinnati.

The 26-year-old was demoted to Indianapolis in mid-August but is back in Pittsburgh ahead of Sunday's series finale versus the Angels. Simon is batting .290 in 34 plate appearances in the majors this year but hasn't provided much pop with just one extra-base hit.
