  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Exits after HBP

Pena was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mariners after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Pena ran the bases for himself after taking a 96.4-mph sinker off his right wrist in the eighth inning, but he was replaced at shortstop when the Astros' defense took the field in the bottom of the frame. He'll likely undergo X-rays to determine whether he suffered a fracture, and more information on his health may be available after the game.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Not starting Tuesday

Story is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Fresh off clinching a spot in the playoffs Sunday, the Red Sox will give Story a day off after starting the previous 15 games. The veteran shortstop posted a .799 OPS during that span and could carry a hot bat into the postseason. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting at shortstop and batting eighth Tuesday for Boston.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Returns to Cleveland lineup

Rocchio (leg) will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Tuesday's contest in Boston.

Rocchio departed Saturday's game against the Athletics and didn't play Sunday because of left leg tightness. He got an extra day of rest with the Guardians being idle Monday and is feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Exiting lineup for first game

Walls is absent from the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Yankees.

The Rays will roll out Ben Williamson at shortstop for Tuesday's matinee. Walls should be back to man the position for the nightcap.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Goes yard in three-hit effort

Henderson went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple in Monday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Henderson rocketed a solo homer in the sixth inning as part of a three-hit effort. The shortstop is slashing .254/.342/.418 with two homers, two RBI and six runs across 18 September games. It's been an overall disappointing campaign for the 25-year-old, as he's hitting .227/.310/.408 with 24 homers, 59 RBI, 88 runs and 10 stolen bases in 155 contests.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Tigers' Javier Baez: Pops rare home run Monday

Baez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Monday's 9-2 win over the Nationals.

Baez hit just his third home run of the season and first since April 24 in the fourth inning of Monday's win. The veteran missed about three months of action between late April and late July due to an ankle sprain, and he then saw his role reduced later in the year as the Tigers turned their attention toward younger players. Baez is under contract in Detroit for one more year in 2027, but at this point, he looks like a high-paid backup to youngsters such as Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark and Hao-Yu Lee.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Rare day off Monday

McGonigle is absent from the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

McGonigle will receive a rare day of rest after starting each of the previous 14 contests for the Tigers. Detroit will slot in Hao-Yu Lee at third base and John Peck at shortstop in Monday's series opener.

  • Yankees' George Lombard: Lifts homer Sunday

Lombard went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Lombard has three multi-hit efforts over his last six games, and he's added two homers in that span. His blast Sunday put the Yankees ahead as part of a four-run third inning. Lombard is batting .235 with a .676 OPS, five homers, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, three doubles, one triple and two stolen bases over his first 37 games in the majors.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Homers, extends hit streak in loss

Story went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Rays.

Story provided the club's only offense with a solo home run in the ninth inning. The veteran shortstop has now hit safely in 11 straight games, and he's batting .338 overall in 19 games since returning from the injured list Aug. 30. On the year, he's slashing .247/.278/.368 with five homers, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored and five steals across 252 plate appearances.

  • Brayan Rocchio SS | CLE

Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Sitting out Sunday

Rocchio (leg) is out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Athletics.

After exiting Saturday's game early with left leg tightness, Rocchio will ride the bench for Sunday's series finale. Angel Genao will take over at shortstop and bat ninth for Cleveland.
