Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Astros' Carlos Correa: Won't return in 2026
Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Correa (ankle) will not return this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Correa was thought to be on the verge of defying the odds and returning from an ankle procedure he underwent in May, but the Astros will instead opt to keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the year. The 31-year-old hasn't suffered a setback in his recovery, but the workload he took on while rehabbing his ankle became too much for him to handle. He'll now have an entire offseason to build up at a more gradual pace, and he should have a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2027 campaign.

C.J. Abrams SS | WAS
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Not in Tuesday's lineup
Abrams is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies.
Abrams started Washington's first 11 games of September but will take a seat Tuesday after posting a .655 OPS during that stretch. Nasim Nunez is manning shortstop and batting ninth for the Nationals versus Philadelphia lefty Cristopher Sanchez.

Kaelen Culpepper SS | MIN
Twins' Kaelen Culpepper: Returning to Minnesota lineup
Culpepper (shoulder) will start at shortstop and bat second in Tuesday's contest versus the Yankees.
Culpepper missed the previous two games after being hit by a pitch on the shoulder in Saturday's tilt against the Guardians. The rookie shortstop is sporting a healthy .283/.342/.415 batting line in his first 30 major-league contests.
-
Cooper Pratt SS | MIL
Brewers' Cooper Pratt: Sitting out with illness
Pratt is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates due to illness, Sophia Minnaert of Brewers.tv reports.
Pratt manned shortstop for the past nine contests for the Brewers but will take a seat in Tuesday's series opener because he's under the weather. Consider him day-to-day. Joey Ortiz will play shortstop and will bat eighth.

Christian Cairo SS | NYM
Mets' Christian Cairo: Claimed by Mets
The Mets claimed Cairo off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Philadelphia designated Cairo for assignment over the weekend, and he'll now join a division rival. The 25-year-old was added to Philadelphia's 40-man roster at the end of spring training but stayed at Triple-A Lehigh Valley all season, where he had a .224/.376/.296 slash line and 90:76 BB:K in 128 games.

Elly De La Cruz SS | CIN
Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Homers again
De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.
De La Cruz mashed his sixth homer and 10th extra-base hit in the last nine games, which is the latest in a longer stretch of offense from the shortstop. Over the last 21 contests, De La Cruz has a .419/.468/.767 slash line with nine doubles, seven home runs, three steals, 15 RBI and 21 runs scored.

Jose Caballero SS | NYY
Yankees' Jose Caballero: Homers, swipes bag Monday
Caballero went 2-for-4 with a home run, two total runs, two total RBI and a stolen base Monday in an 8-3 victory versus the Twins.
Caballero got the scoring started in the contest with a solo shot to left field in the third inning. He added an RBI single in the eighth and then stole second before subsequently coming around to score on a Ben Rice single. Monday marked the fourth time this season Caballero has stolen a base and homered in the same game. It was a much-needed productive performance by the utility man, as he entered the contest in a 1-for-19 tailspin at the plate. That's one of the factors that has cost Caballero playing time, as he's started just three times across New York's past eight games.

Gunnar Henderson SS | BAL
Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Goes deep Monday
Henderson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 2-1 win against the Mets on Monday.
Henderson broke a 1-1 tie with a solo shot to right-center field in the eighth inning to produce the game-winning run. The long ball was his first in September and his 23rd overall this season. It's been mostly a struggle for the infielder in 2026, as his .710 OPS is on pace for a career-worst mark. Still, he's provided more power this year after sinking to just 17 home runs across 154 regular-season games in 2025.
-
J.P. Crawford SS | SEA
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Goes yard in loss
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Angels.
Crawford launched a solo shot to right field in the seventh inning to cut the Mariners' deficit to 6-4. The veteran infielder has now homered in two of the past three games after going 50 contests without a long ball. In 106 games this season, he's hitting .226/.345/.355 with 12 homers, 37 RBI, 46 runs and a stolen base.

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Records steal Monday
Saggese went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Saggese is up to four steals on the year, including three over his last 10 games. He has gone 12-for-36 (.333) in that span, and he got a look in the leadoff spot Monday while Bryan Torres received a day off. Saggese is now batting .268 with a .738 OPS, four home runs, 12 RBI, 23 runs scored, five doubles and one triple over 140 plate appearances in the majors this season.
