White Sox's Sean Burke: Starting ALDS Game 5
White Sox manager Will Venable said Friday that Burke will start Saturday in Game 5 of the ALDS versus the Guardians, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Burke got the win in bulk relief in Game 2 of the series, yielding just one run over 5.1 innings while fanning six batters. The White Sox have elected to have the right-hander make a traditional start in Saturday's winner-take-all affair. He is expected to be opposed by Gavin Williams.

White Sox's Erick Fedde: Option for bulk relief Thursday
White Sox manager Will Venable said Thursday that Fedde and Anthony Kay are likely bulk relief options in ALDS Game 4 versus the Guardians, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Hagen Smith will take the ball first and is likely to cover multiple frames, but it will be yet another playoff game where the White Sox use their bullpen early and often. Fedde has made one appearance this postseason, striking out three over two scoreless innings during the AL Wild Card Series clincher against the Astros.

Patrick Bailey C | CLE
Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Absent from Game 4 lineup
Bailey is not in the lineup Thursday for Game 4 of the ALDS against the White Sox.
Austin Hedges has caught Parker Messick regularly this season and will do so again in Game 4. Bailey is 3-for-9 with a 1:2 BB:K at the plate so far this postseason, while Hedges is hitless in two plate appearances.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Padres' Walker Buehler: Lasts three frames in Game 4
Buehler didn't factor in the decision in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Brewers on Wednesday. He gave up a run on three hits with two walks and no strikeouts over three innings.
The veteran right-hander fought his control at times, throwing just 25 of his 47 pitches for strikes, but he kept San Diego in the game with just one run allowed. Buehler joined the Padres on a minor-year contract in February but made the Opening Day roster and spent all year in the rotation. He struggled to a 5.36 ERA during the first half of the campaign but posted a 3.62 ERA after the All-Star break, finishing the regular season with an overall 4.63 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 131:57 K:BB across 153.2 innings. Buehler will return to the open market this winter, and it remains to be seen if he's done enough to secure a rotation spot somewhere for 2027.

Robert Gasser SP | MIL
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Fires four strong innings
Gasser didn't factor into the decision in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Padres on Wednesday, giving up a run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk over four innings.
The left-hander threw 40 of 56 pitches for strikes as he held San Diego in check, with the only damage against him being a solo homer from Fernando Tatis. It was Gasser's first playoff start after making two relief appearances during the postseason last year. This performance should be more than enough to solidify his place in Milwaukee's rotation for the NLCS, with him likely lining up to start Game 4 in Los Angeles.

Paul Goldschmidt 1B | NYY
Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Wants to continue playing career
Goldschmidt said Wednesday after the Yankees were eliminated from the postseason that he would like to continue his playing career next season, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
An impending free agent, Goldschmidt had a solid 2026 campaign being used primarily as a short-side platoon player for the Yankees, slashing .252/.313/.452 with 18 home runs in 105 contests. That included a .967 OPS against southpaws, so Goldschmidt shouldn't have trouble finding work this winter despite the fact that he turned 39 in September.

Tyler Zuber RP | MIA
Marlins' Tyler Zuber: Undergoing UCL surgery
Zuber will undergo UCL surgery with an internal brace on his right elbow Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
The internal brace procedure comes with a shorter rehab timetable than a full Tommy John surgery, but Zuber nonetheless could be sidelined until the 2028 season. Zuber posted a 5.67 ERA in 2026 thanks in large part to 10 home runs allowed in 39.2 innings, but a 42:11 K:BB offered more promise.

Jakob Marsee CF | MIA
Marlins' Jakob Marsee: Scheduled for UCL surgery Monday
Marsee will undergo a UCL repair with an internal brace on his left elbow Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Marsee played through elbow soreness down the stretch of the regular season, and surgery was recommended following a visit with Dr. Keith Meister. He is expected to be ready to play in games again in six months, which puts his availability for Opening Day in doubt. Marsee slashed .231/.348/.359 with 11 home runs and 23 stolen bases this season for Miami.

Griffin Jax SP | TB
Rays' Griffin Jax: Records hold in Game 3
Jax (back) allowed a run on one hit and one walk over two innings during Game 3 of the ALCS against the Yankees on Wednesday.
The right-hander exited his final outing of the regular season due to a lower-back contusion after being struck by a 104-mph comebacker, but he had a week and a half to rest up before entering Wednesday's series clincher. Jax, who posted a 3.14 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 106:28 K:BB in 23 starts during the regular season, and Ian Seymour should be the candidates to start Game 4 of the ALCS for Tampa Bay.

Nick Martinez SP | TB
Rays' Nick Martinez: Lasts 3.2 frames in Game 3
Martinez didn't factor into the decision in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk across 3.2 innings.
The right-hander started off with two scoreless frames before New York got to him for single tallies in the third and fourth innings to end his evening. Martinez worked exclusively as a starter in MLB for the first time in his career this year, and he responded by delivering a 3.10 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 109:26 K:BB over 180 regular-season innings. The Rays will presumably line him up to start Game 3 of the ALCS.
