One of my favorite things about mock drafts is the ability to try out new things and see how they work. After seven quarterbacks were taken in the first 11 picks of our recent Dynasty Superflex mock, I decided to see how long I could wait at quarterback and what the results would be. They're interesting -- if nothing else. 

First, the good. I ended up with Najee Harris, Joe Mixon, and David Montgomery at running back. My top three wide receivers are Davante Adams, Stefon Diggs, and Elijah Moore. As a point of reference, that's three of my top-10 Dynasty running backs and three of my top-14 Dynasty wide receivers. That will play. 

Even though I didn't take a tight end until Round 11, I still ended up with Dawson Knox. That's absolutely a contender if my quarterback play can be even passable, which is certainly a question mark.

At the seven-eight turn, I took Baker Mayfield and Jameis Winston. We've seen Winston be a top-six quarterback in this league, so he has upside, and I feel pretty confident he's going to be a Week 1 starter somewhere in 2022, hopefully back in Tampa Bay. Mayfield should get at least one more year in Cleveland and I would bet on him getting at least one shot after he leaves the Browns. I'm not sure he can be a top-15 Fantasy quarterback, but I'd like to see him in a more pass-centric offense before I give up on the idea.

I went right back to quarterback at the nine-10 turn, with Davis Mills and Matt Ryan. Mills was either the best rookie quarterback or the second-best and he has more long-term upside than I thought he did a year ago. Ryan has bounceback potential if Calvin Ridley returns, or the Falcons do an adequate job replacing him. 

Looking at the four quarterbacks I ended up with individually, I don't like any of them as a top-15 option for 2022 right now. But the fact that I have four starters going into the year gives me hope that two of them will outperform their expectations. Also, if this was a real startup, without rookies, I would expect that I would have the first rookie pick since I picked 12th in the startup. This means I'd probably add high-upside rookie Malik Willis to the mix. If he hits, this team may be a dominant force in Year 1.

So does this strategy work? I honestly don't hate it. It's not a high-floor play, but the ceiling is pretty ridiculous if two of these quarterbacks are even high-end QB2 types.
