Johnston (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Johnston's shift to IR was a formality after previous reports indicated that the punter suffered a season-ending injury in Sunday's 18-10 win over the Falcons. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin noted Tuesday that Johnston is slated to undergo surgery to address the knee injury. The Steelers are expected to sign Corliss Waitman to replace Johnston as the team's punter.
