Varlamov made 36 saves in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.
Varlamov got off to an 0-5-1 start this season, but he has since won consecutive starts two weeks apart, setting aside 76 of 78 shots in those two games. The Islanders are still languishing near the bottom of the standings and need lights-out play in net to win on most nights given their lackluster offense, but at least Varlamov is starting to earn a greater share of playing time compared to Ilya Sorokin. With every point at a premium, New York will liekly ride the hot hand in net, and right now that's Varlamov.
