Diamondbacks CF Chris Young on DL with shoulder contusion, ligament tear

The Diamondbacks will be without Chris Young for at least the next two weeks as he was placed on the disabled list after running into the wall in Tuesday night's game to make a catch. Young was hitting .410/.500/.897 with five home runs.

Arizona center fielder Chris Young was off to the best start by anyone not named Matt Kemp, but his good luck came to an end on Wednesday when the Diamondbacks placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a right-shoulder contusion and slight ligament tear.

In the first 11 games of the season, Young was hitting .410/.500/.897 with five home runs and two stolen bases.

Young hurt his shoulder in Tuesday's game against the Pirates when he slammed into the outfield wall, robbing Pedro Alvarez's drive to center field in the fourth inning of the Diamondbacks' loss. An X-ray taken Tuesday night showed no breaks, but he underwent an MRI on Wednesday, which, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, revealed a small tear in the ligament. Gilbert's tweet suggests that Young could still return once his 15-day stint is up.

The Diamondbacks called up outfielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks started A.J. Pollock, who was called up for Reno earlier on Wednesday to take the roster spot of Geoff Blum, started Wednesday afternoon's game against Pittsburgh.

The Daimondbacks already have Justin Upton limited with a left thumb injury.
