Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda's rehab assignment is slated to end July 9. However, Pineda is coming off a rough outing Sunday for Double-A Trenton, leaving the door open for Pineda to remain in the minors once his rehab assignment ends, according to the New York Post.

"That’s not something we have really talked about," manager Joe Girardi said about Pineda joining the Yankees instead of being optioned to the minors in order to continue recovering from shoulder surgery that cost him all of last season. "I am sure if he can help us, we will bring him."

Although the Yankees have a full rotation and Ivan Nova in the bullpen, Girardi said the Yankees are not looking to use Pineda out of the bullpen.

"I don’t envision him any other way right now," Girardi said when asked if he viewed Pineda as a starter.
