Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy went 1 for 4 at the plate in New York's 3-1 win over the Marlins Monday. Murphy was quiet at the plate all night before stepping in the box in the ninth inning against Steve Cishek.
Murphy belted a 1-1 pitch from Cishek over the right field wall for a three-run home run to give the Mets the lead and eventual win. It was Murphy's second homer of the season and 14th RBI.
"I'm not going to wake up tomorrow, no matter what I do, and be hitting .290," Murphy said to ESPN.com. "So it's just one at-bat at a time. That's all I can control right now."
He is hitting .174 in 69 at-bats this season. Murphy is working on moving closer to the plate to find more success.
"We've been playing with that and trying to get comfortable in there," Murphy said. "It's always nice to hit some balls hard once you make an adjustment. So hopefully it's something we'll continue working on. One at-bat at a time. I know it's a cliché. But I'm not going to go 15-for-4 tomorrow."
