Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth went 0 for 3 in Monday's 9-4 loss to the Red Sox. Werth was playing his first game of the season after returning from a shoulder injury. A right fielder for most of 2014, Werth played left field in Monday's game.
Werth struck out in the first inning, grounded into a double play in the fourth and grounded out to close the sixth inning. Reed Johnson replaced Werth before the game finished.
"Things can change really quick," Werth said, via MLB.com. "You look back to last year and the year before, we've overcome more than this. It's just a game. We'll put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow."
