The Royals have claimed 28-year-old catcher Adam Moore off waivers, a source tells Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Moore played just 68 games for the Mariners, hitting a putrid .197/.231/.295 with five home runs. At one time he was considered a significant prospect, topping out at No. 83 on Baseball America's rankings in 2010, but a meniscus injury cost him all but two games of the 2011 season.

He hasn't hit in 2012, posting just a .619 OPS for Triple-A Tacoma.

The Royals released Humberto Quintero two days ago but still have catchers Salvador Perez and Brayan Penaon their roster. Expect Moore to report to Triple-A Omaha.
