White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie was designated for assignment Sunday in order to clear a spot on the roster for reliever Matt Albers, who was taken off the 15-day disabled list.

Gillaspie was the White Sox's starting third baseman in 2013 and 2014. He opened the year as the team's primary third baseman, but saw his playing time begin to decline in late May and only started once in the last 10 games before Sunday's transaction.

He hit .237 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 58 games.
