Craig Gentry: Playing days over
Gentry indicated Thursday that he plans to retire, Yahoo Sports reports.
Gentry turned in a trio of multi-hit games for the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate in Albuquerque before landing on the 7-day injured list a couple weeks ago due to an undisclosed issue. The prospect of rehabbing the injury in the minors may not have been appealing to a player with more than seven years of big-league service time, so the 35-year-old called it a career. Gentry acted mostly as a reserve outfielder while appearing in 602 career games between the Rangers, Athletics, Angels and Orioles. He'll retire with a .262/.333/.339 slash line over 1,402 major-league plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Gentry signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Saturday, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
The 35-year-old has hit .262/.333/.339 with just seven homers in his 10-year big-league career. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Rockies this season.... See More ... See Less
Craig Gentry: Released by Baltimore
Gentry was cut loose by the Orioles on Wednesday.
Gentry was released by the organization after being designated for assignment last week. He will now be free to sign with any organization of his choosing. Gentry hit .269 with a .667 OPS across 68 games for the Orioles this year.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Designated for assignment
Gentry was designated for assignment by Baltimore on Friday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
Gentry was cast off the 40-man roster in order to open up another spot for one of the Orioles' prospects in September. In 68 games with Baltimore this year, Gentry slashed .269/.321/.346 with 11 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He will now be subject to the waiver wire.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Drives in three

Gentry hit his first home run of the season as the Orioles pounded Blue Jays starter Thomas Pannone for seven runs. The veteran outfielder has a .263/.313/.342 slash line with 12 stolen bases in 152 at-bats this season.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Reinstated from disabled list
Gentry (ribs) was activated from the 10-day DL prior to Friday's game against Cleveland.
As expected, Gentry will rejoin the big-league club prior to Friday's series opener after playing in a slew of games on a rehab assignment dating back to last week. With Adam Jones being placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move, Gentry may see some action in Cleveland this weekend. Across 59 games with Baltimore this year, Gentry has hit .244/.306/.301 with eight RBI and 10 stolen bases.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Coming off disabled list Friday
Gentry (ribs) will be activated off the disabled list Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
With Adam Jones hitting the bereavement list Friday, Gentry is set to be called back up and will presumably provide outfield depth and speed off the bench for as long as Jones is away from the team. Gentry is slashing .244/.306/.301 with 10 steals on 13 attempts this season.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Set to begin rehab assignment Tuesday
Gentry (rib) is expected to begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Gentry had been scheduled to begin the minor-league assignment last week, but those plans were delayed after he hit a snag in his recovery from the broken rib. The extra time off appears to have done Gentry some good, so he'll be cleared to begin what will likely be a multi-game stint in the minors. Once he's activated from the 10-day disabled list, the 34-year-old is expected to serve as a fourth or fifth outfielder for the big club.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Rehab assignment on hold
Gentry (rib) won't begin his rehab assignment at Low-A Delmarva on Monday as initially planned, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Orioles skipper Buck Showalter didn't say that Gentry suffered a setback in his recovery from a broken rib, but noted the outfielder was "not quite ready" for game action. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since late June with the injury and seems unlikely to see consistent at-bats once he's activated from the disabled list with the Orioles likely eager to assess younger options in the outfield.... Orioles' Craig Gentry: To join Low-A Delmarva on rehab
Gentry (ribs) will start a rehab assignment with Low-A Delmarva on Friday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.
Manager Buck Showalter once again didn't specify a timetable for Gentry, but it appears as though the outfielder is nearing a return to Baltimore. Look for him to participate in a batch of minor-league games over the next week.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Not close to return
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Sunday that Gentry (ribs) isn't close to returning from the 10-day disabled list, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxonline.com reports.
Showalter didn't offer up a projected timetable on Gentry, but it appears safe to conclude the outfielder won't be in line for an activation immediately after the All-Star break. Gentry has reported to the Orioles' spring training facility in Sarasota, Fla. to begin his rehab for the rib injury, which resulted in his placement on the DL in late June.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Close to starting baseball activities
Gentry (ribs) is close to starting baseball activities, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
He will head to Sarasota to start working out at the Orioles' spring training complex. Given this news, it sounds highly unlikely that Gentry comes off the disabled list until after the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Placed on 10-day DL
Gentry was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a rib injury, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
Gentry -- who recently took a fastball to the ribs against the Braves -- was unavailable Tuesday and will now make his way to the disabled list to give his non-displaced rib additional time to heal. Manager Buck Showalter reported that it's not a long-term setback, but the outfielder will likely miss more than the required 10 days.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Gets breather Tuesday
Gentry is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
With no DH spot available in Washington's NL ballpark, Gentry will head to the bench while Mark Trumbo picks up a start at first base and Trey Mancini moves to the outfield. Gentry is hitting a solid .308/.357/.346 across 12 games this month.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Three hits in Friday's loss
Gentry went 3-for-3 with a double and a stolen base in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
The O's only scraped together five hits all night, and Gentry's fifth-inning two-bagger was the team's only extra-base hit. His nine steals are already his highest total since he swiped 20 in 2014, but otherwise the veteran outfielder has offered very little fantasy value this season, posting a .237/.297/.290 slash line with zero homers, seven runs and seven RBI through 102 plate appearances.... Orioles' Craig Gentry: Earns fourth straight start
Gentry will start in center field and bat eighth Sunday against the Rays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Gentry will pick up his fourth straight start, but that's largely a byproduct of Mark Trumbo's knee injury rather than a result of Gentry's performance at the plate earning him more playing time. Though he's valued by the Orioles for his ability to play all over the outfield, Gentry's .208/.274/.260 batting line on the season makes him a rather unappealing commodity outside of AL-only settings.... Orioles' Craig Gentry: Records multi-hit game
Gentry went 2-for-4 during Sunday's loss to the Orioles.
Gentry is struggling at the dish through his first 32 games, slashing .224/.278/.284 with just five RBI in 32 games. Although his playing time has been inconsistent, he's failed to produce at the plate and will need to turn it around soon if he wants to avoid a minor-league stint.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Gets third straight start
Gentry will start in center field and bat eighth Sunday against the Tigers, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.
It's the third consecutive start for Gentry, but much of that has to do with the Orioles opposing a left-handed pitcher for the second straight day. The righty-hitting Gentry still looks to be locked into the short end of a platoon in the outfield and won't offer much fantasy upside when he's included in the lineup. Gentry is slashing a porous .178/.229/.178 across 48 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less
Orioles' Craig Gentry: Dropped to ninth in order
Gentry is starting in left field and batting ninth Monday against the Indians, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Gentry is in the starting lineup for a third straight game with Trey Mancini still sidelined with a sore knee, but he'll drop to ninth in the order after going 0-for-8 as the Orioles' leadoff man in the previous two games. He's expected to return to a reserve role once Mancini is ready to return, which could be as early as Tuesday.... See More ... See Less
