  • Pirates' Zach Phillips: Outrighted to Triple-A

Phillips was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander was a September call-up with the Pirates, notching a 2.70 ERA over 6.2 innings late in the season. Given that he's a left-handed reliever, he could end up latching on with another team this offseason. However, for now, Phillips will remain in the Pirates' system as a non-member of the 40-man roster.

  • Pirates' Zach Phillips: Officially called up from Triple-A

Phillips was officially called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Phillips will return to the major leagues for the first time since 2013, replacing Elias Diaz (leg) on the 40-man roster. The lefty spent nearly the entire year with the Orioles' Triple-A Norfolk affiliate before being traded two weeks ago, posting an impressive strikeout total but also a high walk rate. Look for Phillips to work primarily in low-leverage spots over the final few weeks.

  • Pirates' Zach Phillips: Set to join major league roster

Phillips will likely join the major league roster in the coming days, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Josh Harrison (groin) is expected to miss the rest of the season, so the Pirates needed someone to fill the vacancy. Phillips wasn't spectacular in Triple-A, as he posted an ERA north of 4.00 between the Orioles and Pirates organizations, but his impressive strikeout numbers (85 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched) could come in handy down the stretch for Pittsburgh.

  • Pirates' Zach Phillips: Traded to Pirates

Phillips was traded to the Pirates on Wednesday.

In exchange for Phillips, the Orioles received Kyle Lobstein. Phillips has left much to be desired this season with Triple-A Norfolk, as he owns a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP after pitching 60.2 innings across 49 games. However, he has a fantastic strikeout rate of 31.6 percent.

  • Orioles' Zach Phillips: Clears waivers and outrighted to Triple-A

Phillips cleared waivers Friday and will be outrighted to Triple-A, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The 29-year-old has yet to see any significant time in the major leagues, and it appears he will serve as organizational depth for the Orioles in 2016 after posting just a 4.85 ERA throughout the spring.

  • Orioles' Zach Phillips: Signed by Orioles

The Orioles signed Phillips on Tuesday and it appears he has a shot of making the Opening Day roster, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Phillips is familiar to the organization, appearing in a handful of games in 2011 and 2012. After spending two years in Japan, Phillips returned and threw in Triple-A for the White Sox last season and was added to the 40-man roster in the offseason. For the Orioles, Brian Matusz (back) looks like he may begin the season on the disabled list. That leaves Phillips to compete with T.J. McFarland for a left-handed relief spot. Phillips had allowed two runs on eight hits in five innings with the White Sox this spring.

  • Zach Phillips: Becomes free agent

Phillips declined his assignment to Triple-A Charlotte and will become a free agent, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The White Sox added Phillips to the 40-man roster in the offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but he failed to enter the bullpen picture. He will hope to latch on as bullpen depth elsewhere.

  • White Sox's Zach Phillips: Promoted to 40-man roster

Phillips was promoted to the 40-man roster Wednesday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Phillips spent all of 2015 with Triple-A Charlotte, posting a 3.13 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 54.2 innings. He could fight for a bullpen spot come spring training, but considering Phillips hasn't played in the majors since 2013 his fantasy value remains extremely limited.
