  • Nate Freiman: Announces retirement

Freiman officially announced his retirement from professional baseball.

Freiman's last stay with a major-league organization came in 2016, when he spent just over a month with the Nationals but failed to catch on with their Triple-A affiliate. He appeared in 116 big-league games over the course of his career, all coming with Oakland from 2013-14, when he slashed .256/.309/.408 with nine home runs and 39 RBI. The 31-year-old stated that he will be returning to Duke University this fall to pursue an MBA.

  • Nationals' Nate Freiman: Released by Nationals

Freiman was released by the Nationals organization on Thursday, Kevin Brown of ESPN reports.

Freiman was acquired from Atlanta just before the start of the season but failed to catch on at Triple-A Syracuse. In 26 at-bats, Freiman registered just four hits while striking out 10 times. The 29-year-old will now look to catch on with another club on a minor league deal.

  • Nationals' Nate Freiman: Traded to Nationals

The Nationals acquired Freiman from the Braves in exchange for Tyler Moore on Sunday.

After combining for 277 at-bats with the Athletics in 2013 and 2014, Freiman contended with a back injury early on last season and never made a major league appearance, eventually losing his spot on the 40-man roster on July 2. One week after his release in December, he landed a deal with the Braves, yet his spring was again underwhelming, as he posted a .120/.267/.240 line in 25 at-bats. Expect the first baseman to act as organizational depth to start this season.

  • Braves' Nate Freiman: Signs with Braves

Freiman signed with the Braves on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.

Freiman was waived by the Athletics last week, but wasn't on the open market long as the Braves picked him up. The 28-year-old hit just .220/.279/.321 in 79 games at the Triple-A level last season, so he's unlikely to make much of an impact in the big leagues in 2016.

Freiman was released by the Athletics on Wednesday, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

Freiman received a demotion from the 40-man roster back in July, and proceeded to finished the year with Triple-A Nashville. He'll now be in search of a team looking to pick up a low-risk corner infield option.
