Braves' R.J. Alaniz: Inks minor-league deal
Alaniz signed a minor-league deal with Atlanta in March, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
Alaniz spent the 2021 season in the Cincinnati organization, primarily at Triple-A Louisville. He posted a 45:17 K:BB across 39 innings in the minors, so he could be a reasonable depth reliever for Atlanta at various points in the season.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Outrighted to Triple-A
Alaniz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Alaniz was designated for assignment Wednesday and will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 30-year-old appeared in only three games for the Reds and has a 3.46 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 45:17 across 39 innings at Triple-A.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Designated for assignment
Alaniz was designated for assignment by the Reds on Wednesday.
Alaniz was sent down in early September after he served as the 29th man Sept. 1, and he'll now be cast off the 40-man roster. He's recorded a 3.46 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 39 innings across 33 relief appearances at Triple-A Louisville this season, while his removal from the 40-man roster makes room for Dauri Moreta, whose contract was selected Wednesday.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Recalled as 29th man
Alaniz was recalled by the Reds to serve as the 29th man in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals.
Alaniz missed just over three weeks due to a strained left calf earlier in the season, and he was sent down after he was reinstated from the injured list in mid-August. He's allowed one run on a hit and three walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings across three major-league appearances this year and will provide a fresh bullpen arm for Wednesday's twin bill.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Activated and optioned
Alaniz (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Louisville, source reports.
Alaniz had already been pitching for Louisville while on a rehab assignment and will now remain there as a regular member of the roster. He's spent the majority of his season at that level, making 23 Triple-A appearances compared to just three in the majors.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Starts rehab assignment
Alaniz (calf) reported to Triple-A Louisville to begin a rehab assignment Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Alaniz landed on the injured list with a strained left calf July 24, and he's now ready to start a rehab assignment. The 30-year-old shouldn't require a lengthy stint in the minors since he's only been out a few weeks. He's spent most of the season in Triple-A before being promoted in mid-July, so he may not return to the big-league roster once healthy.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Placed on injured list
Alaniz was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain Saturday.
Alaniz was removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals in the top of the seventh inning after he threw just 12 pitches, and he's apparently dealing with a calf injury that warrants a trip to the injured list. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return, but infielder Max Schrock was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to replace Alaniz on the roster.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Exits with trainer
Alaniz was removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals in the top of the seventh inning with an apparent injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Alaniz threw 12 pitches during his relief appearance and hit a batter before issuing a walk. He missed the strike zone on two consecutive pitches to begin the next at-bat, and he was visited by a trainer afterward. The nature and severity of the right-hander's injury aren't yet clear.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Set for season debut
Alaniz's contract was selected by Cincinnati on Monday.
Alaniz made his big-league debut back in 2019 but struggled to a 9.19 ERA over 15.2 innings for the Mariners and Reds. He's yet to pitch in the majors since then, though his 2.25 ERA in 28 innings for Triple-A Louisville this season suggests he deserves another shot.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Invited to spring training
Alaniz signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Friday that includes an invite to spring training.
Alaniz was non-tendered by the Reds earlier in December, but he'll return to the organization on a minor-league deal. He'll get to work with the major-league coaching staff during spring training after posting a 9.19 ERA over 15.2 innings with the Mariners and Reds in 2020.

R.J. Alaniz: Cut loose by Reds
Alaniz was non-tendered by the Reds on Wednesday.
He logged a 9.19 ERA in 15.2 innings with the Mariners and Reds last season. Alaniz will try to catch on elsewhere on a big-league deal, but he may need to settle for a minor-league pact.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Sent to alternate site
Alaniz was optioned by the Reds on Friday.
Alaniz earned his first callup of the year Tuesday but did not get into a game. He'll make way on the roster for Eugenio Suarez, who returns from the paternity list in a corresponding move.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Contract selected
Alaniz's contract was purchased prior to Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
He logged a 9.19 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 15.2 innings with the Reds and Mariners a season ago, so Alaniz should be expected to pitch almost exclusively in low-leverage situations. Jose De Leon (groin strain) was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Added to Reds' pool
Alaniz will be a part of the Reds' 60-man player pool this season.
While not a member of the 40-man roster, Alaniz will be eligible to provide bullpen depth as needed this season. The 29-year-old righty has a career 9.19 ERA in 15.2 MLB innings.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Removed from roster
Alaniz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
Alaniz made his big-league debut in 2019, throwing 4.0 innings for the Mariners and 11.2 for the Reds. He struggled to find success, finishing with a 9.19 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Promoted to majors
Alaniz was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.
He was claimed off waivers from Seattle on May 31 and has logged a 2.93 ERA over 25 appearances with the Bats. Look for Alaniz to pitch in low-leverage situations.

Reds' R.J. Alaniz: Claimed and optioned by Reds
Alaniz was claimed off waivers by the Reds on Friday and optioned to Triple-A Louisville.
Alaniz threw four innings for the Mariners this season, allowing 10 runs (nine earned). He owns a 6.39 ERA in 12.2 innings for Triple-A Tacoma, though his 36.5 percent strikeout rate at that level does at least hint at some small amount of promise.

Mariners' R.J. Alaniz: Back to minors
The Mariners optioned Alaniz to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.
His demotion opens up a spot in the bullpen for Chasen Bradford (shoulder), who was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Alaniz made four relief appearances in his first callup to the big leagues, giving up runs in all but one of those outings.

Mariners' Ruben Alaniz: Recalled from Triple-A
Alaniz was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
The Mariners are shaking up their bullpen Friday, recalling Alaniz and activating Shawn Armstrong (oblique) while optioning Erik Swanson and Matt Festa. Alaniz is 27 years old and has yet to make his big-league debut, but he's struck out half the batters he's faced in 3.1 Triple-A innings so far this year.

Mariners' Ruben Alaniz: Optioned to minors
Alaniz was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Alaniz had been in camp fighting for a bullpen spot but has apparently already been eliminated from that battle. The move has minimal immediate impact, as Alaniz remains in camp and on the 40-man roster, so he could always re-enter the conversation. For now, the 27-year-old isn't in the bullpen picture for Opening Day.
