  • John Stilson: Cut loose by Pirates

Stilson was released by the Pirates on Monday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic Pittsburgh reports.

Stilson was the Blue Jays' Comeback Player of the Year in 2017 after posting a combined 3.19 ERA across 53.2 innings split between Triple-A Buffalo and Double-A New Hampshire. The 27-year-old will now look for a minor-league deal elsewhere as he attempts to make his way to the majors for the first time in his career.

  • Blue Jays' John Stilson: Awarded for comeback at Triple-A Buffalo

Stilson was named the Comeback Player of the Year as voted on by the organization at Triple-A Buffalo, Amy Moritz of The Buffalo News reports.

Stilson missed the last two months of the 2014 season and practically all of the 2015 campaign due to a torn labrum in his right shoulder. After managing a solid 2016 at Double-A New Hampshire, the reliever returned to the prominent role he held down in the Bisons' bullpen three years ago. Stilson will be in the chase for a middle-relief role with the Jays in 2018.

  • Blue Jays' John Stilson: Bumped up to Triple-A

Stilson will be bumped up a level to begin the season at Triple-A Buffalo, MLB.com's Keegan Matheson reports.

Stilson returned to action last season after overcoming a torn labrum that sidelined him for all but one game in 2015. Last year, the right-hander appeared in 35 minor-league games (34 came with Double-A New Hampshire) and managed a 3.81 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. A better indication of his abilities can be found in his 7.6 K/9 and .238 BAA over 49.2 innings in 2016. Stilson will provide the organization will bullpen depth, but it's unlikely he'll be seen donning a big-league uniform this season.
