Indians' Leonel Campos: Agrees to minor-league deal with Cleveland
Campos agreed to a reached a minor-league contract with the Indians on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Campos only appeared in 13 games with Toronto last season, but he fared reasonably well, allowing just four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out 15 in 13.2 innings out of the bullpen. He spent a majority of the 2017 campaign with Triple-A Buffalo, and will likely serve as organizational depth in a similar capacity for Cleveland this season.

Campos split time between Triple-A Buffalo and the big club last season. He pitched just 13.2 innings over 13 games in the majors, but was a solid option in that time. Campos will rejoin the big-league club ahead of Friday's series opener against the Tigers, and figures to add more depth to Toronto's bullpen for the home stretch of the 2017 season. During 10 appearances with the team, Campos is sporting a 3.09 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with a 12:7 K:BB in 11.2 innings.

Campos was sent back to the minors just a day after joining the big club in order to clear room for Tuesday's starter, Brett Anderson. The 30-year-old only made one appearance during his most recent stint with the Blue Jays, striking out one in a scoreless inning of work. He owns a 3.09 ERA and 12:7 K:BB through 11.2 major-league innings this season, and will likely return after rosters expand in September.

Campos will head to Buffalo after a one-appearance rehab stint at High-A Dunedin on Thursday. Since Campos won't be in store for a vital role out of the bullpen once he's activated from the 10-day disabled list, the Blue Jays could have him remain at Triple-A for most of the 20-day rehab window.

The examination from team doctors apparently did not bring back promising results, as the Blue Jays didn't hesitate to place Campos on the DL after leaving Tuesday's appearance with a right groin strain. It's unclear how much time on the shelf he'll need to recover, but in the meantime, Cesar Valdez will come up from the minors to replace him in the bullpen.
