  • Jamie Callahan: Sent packing by Giants

Callahan was released by the Giants in March, Baseball America reports.

The 25-year-old righty missed most of 2019 with a shoulder injury. The only time he pitched in the majors was in 6.2 innings with the Mets in 2017.

  • Giants' Jamie Callahan: Returns from shoulder injury

Callahan (shoulder) was activated off the injured list at Triple-A Sacramento earlier in July.

  • Giants' Jamie Callahan: Invited to Giants' camp

Callahan (shoulder) signed a minor-league contract Friday which includes an invitation to major-league spring training with the Giants, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Callahan threw 6.2 innings for the Mets back in 2017, allowing four runs (three earned). He managed just 8.1 innings in 2018, all with Triple-A Las Vegas, before being shut down for shoulder surgery. The righty's readiness for spring training is not yet clear.

  • Jamie Callahan: Hits free-agent market

Callahan (shoulder) elected to become a free agent after getting outrighted from the Mets' 40-man roster Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Callahan underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in June after appearing in seven games for Triple-A Las Vegas. It's unclear whether the 24-year-old will be ready to go for spring training at this point. In nine relief appearances with the Mets in 2017, he logged a 4.05 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with five strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

  • Mets' Jamie Callahan: Set for shoulder surgery

Callahan will undergo shoulder surgery, Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Callahan, who has been on the minor-league disabled list since April 22 with a shoulder injury, will miss the remainder of the season after going under the knife. Prior to suffering the injury, the 23-year-old compiled a 9.72 ERA and 9:4 K:BB across 8.1 innings of relief.

  • Mets' Jamie Callahan: Optioned to minors

Callahan was optioned to minor-league camp Tuesday, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.

The 23-year-old righty reached the majors for the first time last year, allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings. He recorded a 2.94 ERA with 11.4 K/9 in 52 innings in the upper minors last season. With strong performances at Triple-A Las Vegas, he could return to the Mets' bullpen later this year.

  • Mets' Jamie Callahan: Recalled from Las Vegas

Callahan was called up by the Mets on Friday.

Callahan is set to make his major-league debut within the next few days as the 23-year-old earns his first promotion to the majors with roster expansion in full effect. During 10 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas since being traded to the Mets in late July, the right-hander has sported a 1.80 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over nine appearances. It seems unlikely that Callahan will get any high-leverage opportunities with the club, but he should get some quality time on the mound as the Mets look to see what they have in him.

  • Mets' Jamie Callahan: Joins Mets via trade

The Red Sox traded Callahan, Stephen Nogosek and Gerson Bautista to the Mets for Addison Reed on Monday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Callahan held a 4.03 ERA with four saves and a nice 11.2 K/9 (albeit with a 4.0 BB/9) across 22 games for Triple-A Pawtucket. The right-hander is the closest of the three prospects to the majors, and he could conceivably get called up at some point this season. Expect him to report to the Mets' affiliate in Las Vegas once the trade is made official.

  • Red Sox's Jamie Callahan: Bumped up to Pawtucket

Callahan has been promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Callahan made quick work of Double-A Portland, pitching just 13 innings before heading up to Pawtucket. The converted starter posted a 1.38 ERA with 20 strikeouts and no walks over 10 relief appearances. This year is ahead of schedule for the 22-year-old right-hander to reach Boston but clearly the Red Sox feel he's ready for the challenge of Triple-A.
