Marlins' Santiago Chavez: Joins player pool
Chavez was added to the Marlins' 60-man player pool Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Chavez's addition will give the team additional depth behind the plate, needed after Will Banfield (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list Wednesday. The Marlins likely won't be expecting Chavez to fill much of a role in Miami this season, as he's yet to reach Triple-A and stumbled to an awful .173/.235/.206 slash line at Double-A Jacksonville last year.

Marlins' Santiago Chavez: Signs minor-league deal with Miami
Chavez signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Wednesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training.
Chavez was a non-roster invite to big-league spring training last season, and he will get the chance to develop there once again in 2020. The 24-year-old struggled at the plate last year, slashing just .173/.235/.206 with one home run and 16 RBI over 79 games. However, he was effective defensively, as he only committed five errors in 2019.
