Jesus Sanchez has managed to tick his strikeout rate down consistently each year, and in 2025 it got down to right around the league average for the first time at 22.1 percent. The 28-year-old also continued to hit the ball with authority, sporting a 43.4 percent hard-hit rate, 11.1 percent barrel rate and 91.3 mph average exit velocity. Unfortunately, all that added up to underwhelming production again, with Sanchez's OPS dipping to .699. A full season at Daikin Park gives Sanchez a better spot for left-handed power, but he barely played versus lefties down the stretch for the Astros and that's unlikely to change in 2026. Sanchez has always seemed on the verge of a breakout and many of his metrics remain promising, but at some point we have to conclude that this is just what he is.

    Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's win over the A's. The 28-year-old outfielder crushed a Luis Morales fastball to straightaway center field in the third inning, giving Sanchez his first long ball in a Toronto uniform. Sanchez has rotated starts with Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider through the first three games of the season, but the former Marlin could end up as the preferred option against right-handed pitching, especially if the Blue Jays coaching staff can unlock more power from his bat. Sanchez has hit between 13 and 18 homers in each of the last five seasons, but his elite bat speed has teased more upside in that department.

The 28-year-old outfielder got hold of a Nick Martinez cutter in the first inning for a two-run homer, one of three Toronto long balls off the right-hander. It was Sanchez's first home run of the spring, and he's been heating up with Opening Day approaching, going 5-for-13 over his last three Grapefruit League games. Sanchez has never been able to fully capitalize on some impressive metrics during his MLB career, including 93rd percentile bat speed in 2025 and a 95th percentile hard-hit rate in 2024, but the Blue Jays have a track record of helping big swingers unlock another level of production.
