The team needed to clear a spot on its 40-man roster for designated hitter/outfielder Willie Calhoun, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday. Following Sunday's loss to the Twins, the Angels optioned Kristofak to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Kristofak closed out the last two innings of Sunday's game, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two batters. The right-hander will head back down to Triple-A, where he has appeared in six games and has posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 18.2 frames. The move corresponds with right-hander Davis Daniel being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Kristofak will join the Angels for his first taste of the big leagues after he posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over 18.2 innings at Salt Lake to begin the campaign. Jose Cisnero (shoulder) was placed on the injured list, and Jimmy Herget was designated for assignment to create a spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters, respectively.
