Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Back in action after shoulder surgery
Montgomery (shoulder) has appeared in three Cactus League games for the Rockies this spring, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, three RBI and a run while playing four innings in center field.
The 22-year-old isn't a serious threat to make the Rockies' Opening Day roster, but his involvement in big-league camp this spring suggests he's made a full recovery from the left shoulder surgery he underwent in May. Montgomery was off to a strong start at Double-A Hartford last season before being shut down due to the injury, slashing .283/.313/.500 with two home runs and three stolen bases in 11 games.

Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Recovering from shoulder surgery
Double-A Hartford placed Montgomery on its full-season injured list after he underwent left shoulder surgery in May, Geoff Pontes of Baseball America reports.
He slashed .283/.313/.500 with two home runs, three steals, 20 strikeouts and two walks in 11 games for Hartford before suffering the season-ending injury in late April. Set to turn 22 years old Sept. 9, Montgomery possesses above-average raw power and plus speed, but he struck out at a 41.7 percent clip in his first test against Double-A pitching. It's unclear if Montgomery will be fully recovered in time for spring training.

Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Cranking in Single-A
Montgomery has a 12-game hitting streak going for Single-A Fresno during which he's compiled a .434/.500/.736 slash line with two home runs, 15 RBI and three steals.
He's shown promise all year long when healthy, as evidenced by his season line of .307/.386/.489 with six homers and nine stolen bases. Whiffs have been a big issue for last year's eighth overall pick (27.6 percent strikeout rate), but he's been noticeably better in that regard during the course of this streak (16.7 percent). Thanks to questions about his hit tool, Montgomery hasn't gotten a lot of hype relative to his status as a top draft pick, so there may be some opportunity to scoop him up on the cheap in dynasty formats.

Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Returns from 7-day injured list
Montgomery (undisclosed) recently returned from an extended stint on the 7-day injured list.
Montgomery returned June 25, ending what was a nearly six-week stint on the sideline, his second prolonged absence on the year. With just four games played since late April, a healthy summer for Montgomery is paramount for his development after being selected eighth overall last June.

Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Still sidelined at Single-A
Montgomery is on the 7-day injured list at Single-A Fresno with an undisclosed injury.
He missed three weeks earlier this season with a quad injury, returned for two games May 17 and 18 before landing back on the injured list May 19. It's possible Montgomery re-injured his quad. He hit .333 with 13 strikeouts, zero walks, one home run and two steals in his most recent 10 games at Single-A.

Rockies' Benny Montgomery: Back in action at Low-A
Montgomery (quadriceps) returned from Low-A Fresno's 7-day injured list Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with a double in the team's 8-7 win over Rancho Cucamonga.
Montgomery was sidelined for the past three weeks with the quad injury. Fresno eased Montgomery back into action as its designated hitter Tuesday, but the 19-year-old should settle into an everyday role in center field before long.
