Dodgers' Chayce McDermott: Dealt to Dodgers
The Orioles traded McDermott to the Dodgers on Thursday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Axel Perez, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
McDermott was DFA'd by Baltimore on Saturday, but his move to the Dodgers will put him back on a 40-man roster. The 27-year-old has made all five of his appearances at Triple-A this year, where he's given up four earned runs across 5.1 innings while striking out nine batters and walking six. He'll report to Triple-A Oklahoma City to begin his tenure in his new organization.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Designated for assignment
Baltimore designated McDermott for assignment Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
McDermott was unable to break camp with the Orioles and has struggled in the early going as part of Triple-A Norfolk's bullpen, allowing four earned runs and walking six batters -- albeit with nine strikeouts -- over 5.1 innings across five appearances. The right-handed hurler will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster, with catcher Maverick Handley -- who had his contract selected by the Orioles on Saturday in the wake of Adley Rutschman's placement on the 10-day IL due to a left ankle injury -- assuming that 40-man slot.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Optioned to Triple-A
The Orioles optioned McDermott to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
McDermott has impressed the Orioles this spring as he makes a full-time move to the bullpen, but he will continue working on things at Norfolk at the beginning of the season. The 27-year-old has a 6:1 K:BB in three innings during Grapefruit League play but has also served up three solo home runs.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Turning heads in relief role
McDermott has impressed the Orioles early on in camp as he transitions to a full-time relief role, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reports.
McDermott wasn't able to solve his command issues as a starting pitcher, but the early returns as he shifts to the bullpen have been promising. The righty worked this offseason with Mason Feole -- a pitching coach based in Rhode Island -- on posture and alignment and has made strides with his command. McDermott has also bumped his average fastball velocity from 93 mph to 96 mph and has struck out five of the seven batters he's faced so far in Grapefruit League play. The 27-year-old is in the running for a spot in the Orioles' Opening Day bullpen and could eventually push for high-leverage appearances.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Staying in bullpen
Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias confirmed Wednesday that McDermott (back) will prepare in spring training to handle a relief role during the 2026 season, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
McDermott made a spot start for the Orioles in his 2024 big-league debut, but after battling a shoulder injury to close out that season and then a lat strain to begin the 2025 campaign, he struggled to find his form. The right-hander then sustained a minor elbow issue in July and ended up shifting to a relief role over the final two months of the season between the majors and Triple-A Norfolk. McDermott was placed on the injured list Sept. 23 due to back discomfort, but he appears to have had a healthy offseason. With the Orioles' starting candidates in generally good health entering 2026, McDermott isn't needed as rotation depth will have to make his mark out of the bullpen during the spring in order to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster.

McDermott's season is over after the 27-year-old right-hander posted an ugly 15.58 ERA, 2.77 WHIP and 9:12 K:BB across 8.2 innings for Baltimore this season. He served up three home runs and 15 earned runs in his limited work.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Moves past elbow issue
McDermott (elbow) rejoined the Triple-A Norfolk rotation Saturday, striking out one over 1.1 innings while allowing five earned runs on four hits and two walks.
McDermott exited his final start before the All-Star break July 10 due to right elbow discomfort, but Norfolk never placed him on the injured list. Though McDermott ended up missing his first turn through the rotation of the second half, the right-hander made enough progress in his recovery from the injury to take the hill over the weekend. Through 11 appearances (10 starts) with Norfolk this season, McDermott owns a 7.80 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 42:35 K:BB in 42.2 innings.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: Early exit from start
McDermott was removed from his start with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday due to right elbow discomfort, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
McDermott was in the midst of a strong start, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.1 innings. The seriousness of the injury is unclear, though an arm issue always raises some level of concern. McDermott has allowed at least four earned runs in five of his eight starts since being demoted to Norfolk in late May.

McDermott (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers after allowing three runs on four hits and five walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out two.
Piggybacking off opener Keegan Akin, McDermott struggled with his control while delivering just 37 of his 75 pitches for strikes. The 26-year-old right-hander generated a meager three swinging strikes, and he's now given up three home runs in his first 7.2 innings of the season after conceding two homers Tuesday. McDermott owns an uninspiring 8.22 ERA, 2.09 WHIP and 7:8 K:BB over his two major-league outings this season.

Orioles' Chayce McDermott: In line to start Tuesday's game
McDermott was added to the Orioles' taxi squad Monday and is expected to start Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
McDermott showed flashes in a spot start last week against the Twins, striking out five while yielding four runs over three innings. He missed the first month of the season with a lat injury and hasn't thrown more than 65 pitches in any outing, so McDermott is unlikely to go deep into Tuesday's start unless he's efficient.

The Orioles optioned McDermott to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.
McDermott was up as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Twins, starting the second game and allowing four runs over three innings. The right-hander will rejoin the rotation at Norfolk and wait for another opportunity with the big club.

Called up from Triple-A Norfolk earlier in the day for the twin bill, McDermott tossed 65 pitches (34 strikes) before being lifted in favor of Charlie Morton to begin the fourth inning.
