Tigers' Matt Wotherspoon: Picked up by Detroit
Wotherspoon signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Friday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.
Wotherspoon was cut loose by the Orioles on Monday, but his time on the open market didn't last long. He'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Toledo.

Matt Wotherspoon: Heads to free agency
Wotherspoon was released by Baltimore on Monday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
Wotherspoon was booted off the Orioles' 40-man roster in early July after failing to find success in the first two big-league outings of his career. He surrendered eight runs on 10 hits and two walks while fanning two batters over 4.2 innings of work.

Orioles' Matt Wotherspoon: Designated for assignment
Wotherspoon was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Tuesday.
Wotherspoon has thrown 4.2 innings for the Orioles this season, allowing eight runs. He was removed from the 40-man roster to allow the Orioles to select Asher Wojciechowski's contract from Triple-A Norfolk.

Orioles' Matt Wotherspoon: Optioned to minors
Wotherspoon was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk following Wednesday's 10-4 loss to the Padres.
This move frees up a roster spot for John Means (shoulder), who is slated to come off the injured list ahead of his scheduled start Friday. Wotherspoon made just one appearance during his most recent stint with the big club, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two across 2.2 innings.

Orioles' Matt Wotherspoon: Back in big leagues
Wotherspoon's contract was selected by the Orioles from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.
The right-hander has struggled to limit offensive production with Triple-A Norfolk this season, recording an ERA of 4.46 and giving up six home runs in 40.1 innings. However, Wotherspoon has amassed a solid 47:13 K:BB in the minors in 2019. Injuries to John Means (shoulder), Alex Cobb (hip) and Josh Lucas (shoulder) led to Wotherspoon's return, so it's unclear whether he will remain with the Orioles once the players return to health. Due to his inconsistency, Wotherspoon will likely handle mostly low-leverage situations for the foreseeable future.
