  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Outrighted to Triple-A

Deetz cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Deetz was designated for assignment by the Astros last Thursday, and he'll now be sent to Triple-A Round Rock after going unclaimed on waivers. The right-hander recorded a 7.15 ERA and 2.03 WHIP over 34 innings with Triple-A Round Rock last season.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: DFA'd following trade

Deetz was designated for assignment by the Astros on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Following a trade that sent Austin Pruitt to Houston, Deetz will be the one to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. He failed to make an appearance in the majors during the 2019 campaign, struggling to a 7.15 ERA and 2.03 WHIP with a 51:37 K:BB over 34 innings with Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Lands on minor-league IL

Deetz (undisclosed) was placed on the minor-league injured list Thursday.

It's unclear what Deetz is dealing with or how long it will keep him sidelined at this point. Prior to suffering the injury, the right-hander compiled an 8.53 ERA, 2.21 WHIP and 21:14 K:BB in 12.2 innings for Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Available in relief

Deetz (shoulder) is listed among the Astros' available bullpen options for Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Deetz has been limited to just one appearance this spring while tending to a sore right shoulder and may have hurt his chances of making the Opening Day roster as a result of the missed time. Even if the Astros send Deetz back to the minors to begin the season, he likely wouldn't have to wait long for a promotion after dominating at Triple-A Fresno in 2018 to the tune of a 0.79 ERA and 50:18 K:BB in 34 innings.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Out with shoulder soreness

Deetz reported to camp with right shoulder soreness and has yet to pitch in spring training, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Deetz made his major-league debut in September after posting a fantastic 0.79 ERA with 50 strikeouts over 34 innings at Triple-A Fresno. The 25-year-old figured to have a chance to earn a bullpen role with the Astros to start the season, but his chances now take a hit with spring training underway and no official timetable for his return.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Earns first career callup

Deetz was called up by the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Deetz earns the promotion after recording a stellar 0.79 ERA in 34 innings with Triple-A Fresno. His 35.5 percent strikeout rate was clearly enough to offset his 12.8 percent walk rate, at least at that level. Even if he carries the same level of performance into his first taste of big-league action, he won't play a role in October, as the 80-game performance-enhancing drug suspension he served earlier in the season renders him ineligible for the postseason.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Reinstated and optioned to Triple-A

Deetz was reinstated from the restricted list and optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports.

Deetz has completed his 80-game suspension for testing positive for Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone. He had a 6.40 ERA and an 18.6 percent walk rate in 45 innings for Fresno last season.

  • Astros' Dean Deetz: Joins Low-A for rehab stint

Deetz (suspended) joined Low-A Quad Cities on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Deetz is currently in the midst of serving an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He'll get up to speed with River Bandits before being reinstated from the restricted list in July. Once active, Deetz will likely report to Triple-A Fresno.
