  • Mets' David Thompson: Healthy for spring

Thompson will be available in a reserve role for the Mets' spring training opener Saturday against the Braves, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Thompson was limited to just 25 appearances in the minors last season while dealing with a hairline fracture in his left hand, an injury he suffered in late April. While he returned for a rehab assignment at short-season Brooklyn in July, Thompson was shut down thereafter and has spent the last several months recuperating. His inclusion on the bench for the first game of the Mets' Grapefruit League slate suggests he should be ready to reclaim a full-time role at Triple-A Syracuse once camp comes to a close.

  • Mets' David Thompson: Dealing with hairline fracture

Thompson is dealing with a hairline fracture in his left hand, Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review Journal reports.

Thompson suffered the injury after getting hit by a pitch in the hand last weekend. He's set to see a hand specialist in New York, but the early expectation is that he'll be sidelined for around four-to-six weeks. The team signed Cody Asche to fill in for Thompson at Triple-A Las Vegas in the meantime. Prior to suffering the injury, the 24-year-old was hitting .258/.329/.379 with a homer and two stolen bases through 22 games.

  • Mets' David Thompson: Hits disabled list Monday

Thompson was placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Las Vegas after a pitch struck his hand Sunday, Betsy Helfand of The Las Vegas Review Journal reports.

At this point in time, it's unclear when Thompson will be ready to return from the disabled list. Over 22 games with Las Vegas this season, Thompson has hit .258/.329/.379 and stolen two bases.

  • Mets' David Thompson: Assigned to minors camp

The Mets reassigned Thompson to their minor-league camp Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old held his own in the Grapefruit League with an 8-for-23 mark at the dish, but with the Mets set to use the remaining exhibition games to evaluate more realistic candidates for the Opening Day roster, there wasn't going to be any room in the lineup for Thompson. While the Mets haven't formally decided where the third baseman will open the upcoming season, he could be ready for an assignment to the Pacific Coast League after slashing .263/.325/.429 with 46 extra-base knocks at Double-A Binghamton in 2017.

  • Mets' David Thompson: Invited to spring training

Thompson will attend spring training as a non-roster invitee, Abbey Mastrocco of NJ.com reports.

Thompson spent the entire 2017 season at Double-A Binghamton, where he slashed .261/.318/.415 -- he also slugged 16 home runs and recorded 68 RBI. The 24-year-old third baseman could start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas with a strong showing in spring training.
