  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Goes unclaimed off waivers

The Nationals outrighted Bacus to their alternate training site Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Bacus remains in the organization after none of the league's other 29 teams put in a waiver claim for him when he was designated for assignment over the weekend. He'll stick around at the alternate site in Fredericksburg for the next month before likely reporting to Rochester when the Triple-A season begins in May.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Booted from 40-man roster

Washington designated Bacus for assignment Sunday, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster and in the Nationals' Opening Day bullpen for Luis Avilan. Bacus previously appeared in 11 games out of Washington's bullpen in 2020, posting a 7.94 ERA and 5.48 WHIP across 11.1 innings.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Optioned to Triple-A

Bacus (forearm) was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

The 29-year-old missed the final few weeks of 2020 with a forearm strain, but he returned for spring training and gave up three runs with a 7:5 K:BB over seven innings. Bacus made his big-league debut for the Nationals last season and posted a 7.94 ERA and 2.03 WHIP over 11.1 innings before the injury.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Done for season

Bacus has a significant forearm strain and will not return this season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Bacus threw the first 11.1 innings of his big-league career this season and failed to impress, allowing 10 runs while striking out seven batters and walking nine. He was shut down with what was originally called a right flexor strain. Whether or not he'll be up to full speed by the start of spring training is not yet clear.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Placed on injured list

Bacus was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Bacus gave up five runs over 2.1 innings during his past two appearances, and his injury could help provide an explanation for his struggles. The right-hander has been mainly effective in relief during his first major-league season, but he'll now be sidelined while he recovers from his injury. It's unclear how much time he'll miss as a result of the issue. James Bourque was called up by the Nationals to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Nearing big-league debut

Bacus had his contract selected and was added to the active roster by the Nationals on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Bacus reached the Triple-A level in 2015, but he's been unable to break into the majors until now. The 29-year-old had a 3.58 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 52:28 K:BB over 55.1 innings at Triple-A Fresno last season and is likely to fill a low-leverage role.

  • Nationals' Dakota Bacus: Added to 60-man pool

Bacus has been named to the Nationals' 60-man player pool, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.

The minor-league veteran has yet to make his big-league debut, and Bacus posted a 3.58 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 52:28 K:BB over 55.1 innings in the bullpen for Triple-A Fresno in 2019. He'll likely be called upon by the Nats only in an emergency.
