The Marlins assigned Graves to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
Graves stuck on the Marlins' roster all of last season as a Rule 5 pick, making 21 relief appearances and posting a 5.40 ERA and 21:12 K:BB in 33.1 innings. After being outrighted off the roster in December, Graves never had much of a chance at breaking camp with the big club for the second season in a row. He'll function as bullpen depth at Triple-A New Orleans.

Marlins' Brett Graves: Picks up first career save
Graves pitched a scoreless 10th inning Saturday to record his first career save in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Nationals.
After Drew Steckenrider blew the save in the ninth inning, Marlins manager Don Mattingly didn't have any other likely closer candidates available once the team regained the lead in the top of the 10th, but Graves was able to get the job done despite throwing only seven of his 14 pitches for strikes. Given his 6.23 ERA on the season, don't look for the 25-year-old rookie to get many future save chances.

Marlins' Brett Graves: Returning from DL on Thursday
Graves (oblique) will be activated from the 60-day disabled list Thursday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Graves has spent the entirety of the 2018 campaign on the disabled list while recovering from a left oblique strain that he suffered in early March. The Rule 5 pick appeared in seven minor-league contests during his lengthy rehab assignment and began to settle in after a couple rough outings at the High-A level in May. Looking ahead, Graves will be utilized out of the bullpen in what appears to be a middle-relief role. In a corresponding move, the Marlins are expected to place Caleb Smith on the bereavement list.

Marlins' Brett Graves: Transfers rehab to Double-A
Graves (oblique) made a rehab start at Double-A Jacksonville on Sunday, covering four innings and giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.
It was the third rehab start overall for Graves, who has been on the 60-day disabled list all season with a left oblique strain. The injury appears to be behind Graves at this point, so the Rule 5 pick seems to be in the process of building up his arm again after an extended layoff. Once he's activated from the DL, Graves is expected to stick with the Marlins in a long-relief role, assuming the organization still values him enough to keep him on the active roster.

Graves (oblique) began a rehab assignment at High-A Jupiter on Thursday, covering three innings and giving up one run on two hits and no walks while striking out two.
Following his selection in the Rule 5 draft over the winter, Graves entered spring training as a long-shot candidate for the Miami rotation, but a left oblique strain suffered in early March effectively ended his bid for a starting role. After taking the last two months off to recuperate, Graves will begin building up his arm again for a starter's workload. It's expected that he'll require at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the 60-day disabled list. Once that happens, Graves will likely work in long relief for the Marlins unless an injury to one of Miami's established starters clears a spot in the rotation.

Graves made just three appearances this spring before suffering an oblique strain in Grapefruit League play. The Rule 5 pick will now move to the 60-day DL, which opens up a 40-man roster spot yet still allows the Marlins to retain his rights.
