  • Mets' Chris Williams: Minor-league deal with Mets

The Mets signed Williams to a minor-league contract Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Williams has spent the last two seasons at Triple-A St. Paul in the Twins organization, posting an .800 OPS with 17 home runs there in 2024. The 28-year-old has yet to reach the majors but offers some versatility with the ability to play catcher, first base, left field and right field. He'll likely begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Twins' Chris Williams: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Twins reassigned Williams to minor-league camp Thursday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Williams reached Triple-A ball for the first time last season and slashed .192/.290/.424 over 176 plate appearances with the affiliate. The 26-year-old catching prospect will likely need to spend a bit more time with Triple-A St. Paul before making the jump to the majors.

  • Twins' Chris Williams: Promoted to Double-A

Williams has been promoted to Double-A Wichita despite hitting just .100 (5-for-50) in 17 games with High-A Cedar Rapids.

Williams had an .829 OPS and 10 home runs in 59 games at High-A in 2019, which gave him a Midwest League All-Star honor. He got some time with the big-league club in spring training, but at age 25, the 2018 eighth-round pick out of Clemson will need to advance based on his defense behind the plate since he hasn't been overly impressive with his bat.

  • Twins' Chris Williams: Removed from spring roster

Williams (shoulder) was removed from the 75-man roster Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Williams had been working at big-league camp to begin spring training, but he left Tuesday's game due to a left shoulder subluxation. He'll be replaced by infielder Spencer Steer on the 75-man roster, while Williams will likely begin the season at High-A.

  • Twins' Chris Williams: Exits with shoulder injury

Williams left Tuesday's spring training game with a left shoulder subluxation, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

He was playing first base and left after an errant throw by pitcher Ian Gibaut carried him off the bag. Williams hit .218 with an .830 OPS at Low-A in 2019 but didn't play last season. At age 24, he's in camp to provide depth. He'll likely begin the season at High-A.
