Rays' Jadher Areinamo: Bumped to 40-man roster
Tampa Bay selected Areinamo's contract from Double-A Montgomery on Tuesday, thus protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays acquired Areinamo in a deal with Milwaukee in late July. The 21-year-old had been playing at the High-A level prior to the trade, but he immediately jumped up Double-A with the Rays and slashed .255/.316/.397 with four homers, 19 RBI and six stolen bases over 37 contests. Areinamo can play multiple infield positions and has shown a bit of pop along with good speed on the basepaths. Perhaps most impressively, he's struck out below a 13 percent clip each of the past three seasons.

Rays' Jadher Areinamo: Dealt to Tampa Bay
The Rays acquired Areinamo from the Brewers on Monday in exchange for catcher Danny Jansen and cash considerations, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Areinamo, 21, has slashed .297/.355/.463 with 11 home runs and 15 stolen bases in 94 games this season at High-A Wisconsin. He is capable of playing shortstop, second base and third base.

Brewers' Jadher Areinamo: Impressive surface stats at High-A
Areinamo slashed .301/.349/.442 with 10 home runs, 32 steals and an 11.1 percent strikeout rate in 110 games for High-A Wisconsin.
Areinamo's traditional statistics are pretty alluring, but it's worth noting that he is a 5-foot-8 second baseman who logged a very poor 17.9 percent hard-hit rate this year. His bat-to-ball ability and strike zone awareness should allow him to get the most out of his limited physical tools, but it will be an uphill battle for him to provide enough offensive value to play every day at second base.
