Orioles' Cade Povich: Sent packing to minors
The Orioles optioned Povich to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
Povich was dialed in in a spot start Sunday against the Giants, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball while notching five strikeouts. However, with Dean Kremer joining the Orioles' rotation there was no longer a spot for Povich, who will stay stretched out as a member of Norfolk's starting five.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Dominant in first start
Povich (1-0) earned the win against the Giants on Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Povich allowed a run in the fifth inning but was otherwise fantastic, generating 17 whiffs on 97 pitches and allowing just one extra-base hit. The young southpaw followed up a solid bulk relief outing April 5 and has yielded three runs across 12.1 innings to open the campaign. He certainly did all he could to earn another turn in the rotation, which would tentatively line up for a road matchup against the Guardians next weekend.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Drawing start this weekend
Povich will start Sunday's game against the Giants, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
After Brandon Young made a spot start in place of the injured Zach Eflin (elbow) on Monday, it will be Povich getting a turn this weekend. Povich made one extended relief appearance Sunday against the Pirates, allowing two runs on four hits and a 2:3 K:BB over 5.2 innings. The left-hander will have an opportunity to make additional starts if he pitches well.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Works in long relief Sunday
Povich covered 5.2 innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Pirates, taking a no-decision while striking out two batters and allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks.
With starter Chris Bassitt getting chased from the game after allowing six runs over two innings, Povich -- who had been called up from Triple-A Norfolk -- was tasked with mopping up in the series finale in Pittsburgh. The young lefty was able to eat some innings and spare the bullpen from overuse, but the extended relief appearance will take him out of the running to fill the open spot in the Baltimore rotation that was created by Zach Eflin's (elbow) recent move to the injured list. Albert Suarez could be the leading candidate to replace Eflin in Monday's game against the White Sox, either as a starter or primary pitcher out of the bullpen.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Called up, could start Monday
The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.
Povich started 20 of the 22 games in which he appeared for the Orioles last season and posted a 5.21 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 118:43 K:BB over 112.1 total innings. He's made one start with Norfolk this year, allowing five earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking two over five frames March 31. With Zach Eflin (elbow) landing on the IL on Wednesday, Povich seems primed to claim a spot in the rotation, potentially making his season debut Monday versus the White Sox.

Povich was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Povich will head to Norfolk after starting three contests during spring training, giving up four runs on three hits and seven walks while striking out six batters over 8.1 innings. The southpaw recorded a 5.21 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 118 strikeouts over 112.1 innings in 22 appearances, including 20 starts, with the Orioles in 2025. Povich will likely get a shot with the major-league roster in the near future.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Promising start in spring training
Povich allowed one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings during Monday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. He struck out one.
The Orioles have a quartet of arms battling for a roster spot this spring either as a sixth starter or bulk reliever, and Povich did his part Monday to keep himself under consideration. Zach Eflin (back) is expected to be a full participant at camp, though it remains to be seen when he'll make his spring debut. For now, Povich has Dean Kremer, Tyler Wells and Brandon Young as his primary competition.

The Orioles optioned Povich to the Florida Complex League on Saturday.
Povich made his final start of the season Thursday and will finish his second MLB season with a 5.21 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 112.1 innings spanning 22 appearances. He'll now head to the Orioles' spring training facility to finish up his regular-season duties, and the team will bring up Carson Ragsdale to provide extra bullpen depth.

Povich allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Rays. He struck out four.
It was another disappointing outing for Povich, who's failed to make it out of the sixth inning in any of his last seven starts -- he's gone 1-2 with a 5.75 ERA in that span (36 innings). The 25-year-old Povich will likely finish the campaign at 3-8 with a 5.21 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 118 strikeouts across 112.1 innings.

Orioles' Cade Povich: Struggles with control in loss
Povich (3-8) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out five.
While Povich did manage to hurl at least five innings for a fourth consecutive start, the four walks were his most since his April 18 outing against the Reds. The southpaw did strike out the side in the fourth frame as well, but he remains without a quality start since Aug. 10 against the Athletics. Povich has an underwhelming 5.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 114:41 K:BB over 106.2 innings this year, and he's next set to take the ball versus a Rays team with a strong .799 OPS against left-handed pitching since the beginning of September.
