    The Astros optioned VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.

    The right-hander was called up by Houston on Friday and will return to Triple-A after giving up five runs over two innings Saturday versus the Reds. VanWey is being sent down to create roster space for Shawn Dubin (shoulder), who was reinstated from the injured list.

  • Astros' Logan VanWey: Back in big leagues

    The Astros recalled VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    The right-hander was optioned to Sugar Land last weekend but will quickly rejoin the big club since Hayden Wesneski (elbow) is headed to the injured list. In his first taste of the majors earlier this year, VanWey made six appearances and gave up one earned run on 11 hits with a 2:1 K:BB over 6.2 innings.

    The Astros optioned VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

    Since making his MLB debut April 11, VanWey has allowed one run on nine hits and a walk while striking out one batter and walking one over 5.2 innings. He'll now be sent back to the minors to clear a roster spot in preparation for Lance McCullers' (forearm) long-awaited return from the injured list Sunday.

    VanWey is expected be called up from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

    VanWey will join the Astros ahead of their series in Seattle after making four appearances out of the bullpen for Sugar Land so far this season, posting a 4.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP with seven strikeouts over four innings. Houston is expected to option Luis Contreras to Triple-A to clear a spot in the bullpen for VanWey, who will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.
