Mariners' Colt Emerson: Nursing wrist injury at Triple-A
The Mariners declined to recall Emerson from Triple-A Tacoma to take Brendan Donovan's (groin) roster spot in part because Emerson has been dealing with a wrist injury, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Emerson homered in his last game for Tacoma on Saturday but did not play in Sunday's contest. It's unclear if the top prospect will miss any additional time. The timing of the injury is unfortunate, although the Mariners might have decided against promoting Emerson even if he was healthy, as Donovan's absence is not expected to last long. Signed to an eight-year, $95 million contract extension in late March, Emerson is slashing .258/.361/.452 with two homers and six stolen bases in his first 73 plate appearances with Tacoma. The 20-year-old has a good chance to make his major-league debut in the first half, but for now he'll focus on getting healthy and returning to the Rainiers' lineup.

Mariners' Colt Emerson: Rejoins Triple-A lineup
Emerson (foot) started at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases and an RBI on Tuesday in Triple-A Tacoma's 1-0 win over Sugar Land.
Emerson suffered a right foot injury while playing in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, but he needed just a couple of days of rest and recovery to move past the issue. The 20-year-old infielder likely isn't far away from making his big-league debut, after he agreed last week with Seattle on an eight-year, $95 million contract extension. Through eight games with Tacoma this season, Emerson is slashing .310/.355/.483 with three extra-base hits across 32 plate appearances.

Emerson left Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader with Triple-A Tacoma after the first inning with an apparent injury.
Seattle prospect reporter Mariners Minors said that Emerson fouled a pitch off his foot in the bottom of the first. Emerson stayed in the game initially but was replaced on defense the next half inning. The Mariners have already suggested J.P. Crawford will remain the starting shortstop for the big club even after signing Emerson to an eight-year, $95 million extension earlier this week, and this injury could further delay plans for a call-up.

X-rays on Emerson's right foot were negative after he left the first game of Triple-A Tacoma's doubleheader against El Paso on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
The Mariners' top prospect seems to have avoided a serious injury after fouling a pitch off his foot in his first plate appearance of the day. Mariners' Colt Emerson: Inks $95 million contract extension
The Mariners signed Emerson to an eight-year, $95 million contract extension Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
The deal includes a club option for a ninth year and can top $130 million if all incentives are reached. It's a record contract for a player yet to reach the majors. Emerson came close to winning a roster spot with the Mariners in spring training and now, with a new long-term contract, is a good bet to be promoted to the big club sooner rather than later, though he will remain at Triple-A Tacoma for now, per Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder injury that's nagged at him since the start of spring training and faces an uncertain timetable. Leo Rivas has been filling in at shortstop for Seattle, but the club could eventually look to Emerson to fill that void. Emerson, 20, slashed .285/.383/.458 with 16 homers and 14 steals over three levels in the minors in 2025 and is 5-for-14 with a home run in his first three games at Tacoma in 2026.

Mariners' Colt Emerson: Will open season in minors
The Mariners reassigned Emerson to minor-league camp Saturday.
Emerson entered spring as a contender to start at second base for the Mariners to begin the season, but fellow youngster Cole Young ended up running away with that role. Still, Emerson has held his own in Cactus League play, posting a .268/.340/.488 slash line with two home runs, eight RBI, nine runs and a stolen base through 18 contests. Emerson remains likely to make his MLB debut at some point during the upcoming campaign.
