Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Held out of lineup again
Edwards is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.
It marks three games in a row that Edwards has been absent from Miami's lineup. He did receive two plate appearances off the bench in Wednesday's game versus the Pirates, so it seems as though Edwards is available. The switch-hitter did return from a back injury earlier this month, so this appears to be a situation where the Marlins are just being cautious with their young infielder. Otto Lopez is at shortstop in Thursday's series opener.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Aiming for return this week
Edwards (back) resumed full baseball activities last week and anticipates returning from the 10-day injured list at some point during the Marlins' six-game homestand that runs Tuesday through Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Miami placed Edwards on the IL on Aug. 26 with mild back extensor soreness, but he looks poised to return in the minimum 10 days or close to it. Once reinstated, Edwards should reclaim an everyday role at shortstop while potentially displacing Connor Norby as the Marlins' primary leadoff hitter.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Goes on IL with sore back
The Marlins placed Edwards on the 10-day injured list due to mild back extensor soreness.
Edwards missed the final two games of the Marlins' series against the Cubs over the weekend with the back issue, and though an MRI on Sunday returned negative, the team will err on the side of caution and deactivate him. Before landing on the IL, Edwards was able to take some swings and do some throwing on the field Sunday, so he could have a chance at returning from the IL when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is expected to serve as the Marlins' primary shortstop in place of Edwards, who had slashed .356/.432/.442 with 10 extra-base hits and 22 stolen bases since moving into a full-time role at the beginning of July.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Expected to go on IL
The Marlins are expected to place Edwards (back) on the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Outfielder Griffin Conine is set to receive a call-up from Triple-A Jacksonville and will meet up with the Marlins in Colorado for the start of the club's four-game series with the Rockies, while Edwards will head to the IL to open up on a spot on the 26-man active roster. Edwards had missed the Marlins' past two games with lower-back discomfort, and though an MRI returned negative and he was able to do some work on the field Sunday, the club wants to give the young infielder more time to heal up from the injury. Edwards' placement on the IL will be retroactive to Saturday, and he should have a good chance at being ready to return when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is likely to step in as the Marlins' primary shortstop while Edwards is on the shelf.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Imaging negative, DTD
Imaging on Edwards' lower back came back negative Saturday, and he's considered day-to-day, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Edwards was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs due to a lower-back injury he sustained while attempting to steal a base. Considering Saturday's testing didn't reveal any significant injury, Edwards shouldn't miss more than a few games -- if he misses time at all. The Marlins close out a home series against the Cubs on Sunday before heading out on a seven-game road trip.

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Undergoing imaging on back
Edwards is receiving imaging on his lower back this weekend, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Edwards left in the third inning of Friday's game against the Cubs after sustaining a lower-back injury during a steal attempt in the second frame. The results of the imaging will determine whether Edwards will need a stint on the IL or just a few days of rest. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak and is slashing .349/.428/.436 with 22 stolen bases, 25 runs scored, one home run and 17 RBI across 202 plate appearances this season. In the interim, Vidal Brujan will see more playing time at shortstop for as long as Edwards is sidelined.
