Salazar did not make the Astros' Opening Day roster, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
He's out of minor-league options, so Salazar will have to be exposed to waivers first if the Astros intend to send him to Triple-A Sugar Land. The 30-year-old has seen spot duty with Houston the past three years, slashing .232/.318/.268in 67 plate appearances.

Astros' Cesar Salazar: Sent back to Triple-A
Houston optioned Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
With Yainer Diaz and Victor Caratini at full health, Salazar is expendable. He'll lose his spot on the active roster in order for Zach Cole to have his contract selected. Salazar is 3-for-13 (.231) with a 2:2 BB:K in 11 big-league games this season.
