  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Rocchio was recalled from Columbus on Aug. 2 and slashed .271/.308/.354 through 52 plate appearances during his latest stint in the majors. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Cam Gallagher (concussion), who returned from the 7-day injured list Thursday, but Rocchio could make a quick return to the majors once rosters expand in September.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Rocchio is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Dodgers.

Rocchio and Gabriel Arias have shared the shortstop job for the Guardians since the trade of Amed Rosario, and it will be Arias at the position for this one after Rocchio had started four of the previous five games there. The 22-year-old Rocchio has collected a .610 OPS over 18 games for Cleveland this season.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Posts three hits in loss

Rocchio went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Reds.

Rocchio has multiple hits in three of his last seven games, though this was the first time he was in the lineup since Saturday. The shortstop is batting .288 with a .674 OPS, no home runs, four RBI, six runs scored and no stolen bases through 55 plate appearances. With Jose Tena optioned to Triple-A Columbus, Rocchio will compete with Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman for playing time at shortstop going forward.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Sitting Sunday

Rocchio isn't in the Guardians' lineup Sunday against the Rays.

Rocchio is batting .304 (7-for-23) over his last seven games and will sit out Sunday's series finale after an 0-for-4 effort Saturday. Jose Tena will draw the start at shortstop instead and bat ninth, and Gabriel Arias will start at third base.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Drives in two Thursday

Rocchio went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Rocchio's two doubles each knocked in a run. The infield prospect has been in the lineup regularly at shortstop lately with Gabriel Arias seeing more time at first base since Josh Naylor (oblique) and David Fry (hamstring) went on the injured list. Over 41 plate appearances this season, Rocchio has hit .275 with a .668 OPS, four doubles, three RBI and four runs scored. It's possible Rocchio could go back to splitting time at shortstop with Arias once the Guardians' lineup is healthier.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Heads to bench Wednesday

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Rocchio will take a seat Wednesday after he had started at third base or shortstop in each of the Guardians' last six contests, going 6-for-21 with two doubles, one walk and three runs over that stretch. Gabriel Arias, who had started the past two games at first base, will move over to shortstop to spell Rocchio.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Nabs fourth straight start

Rocchio will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

He'll stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game, with two starts coming at shortstop and two coming at third base. The Guardians haven't indicated whether Rocchio or Gabriel Arias will end up settling in as their everyday third baseman, but the team could have room for both players on the left side of the infield during the upcoming week if Jose Ramirez is suspended for throwing punches in Saturday's loss to the White Sox. Major League Baseball has yet to rule on the matter, and Ramirez will be included in the lineup Sunday as Cleveland's designated hitter.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Recalled from Columbus

Cleveland recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old will jump right into the Guardians' starting lineup at third base Wednesday versus the Astros as Jose Ramirez serves as Cleveland's designated hitter. Rocchio is 3-for-14 with no extra-base hits so far at the major-league level, but he's registered a solid .291/.383/.417 batting line with three homers and 19 steals across 89 games this season in Triple-A. The Guardians have been leaning on Gabriel Arias as their primary option at shortstop since trading Amed Rosario to the Dodgers last week, but Rocchio could end up getting a look at that position while he's up with the big club.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Sent down to Triple-A

Rocchio was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Josh Bell is expected back from paternity leave Tuesday against the Red Sox, so Rocchio is headed back to the minors. The rookie infielder has had a few stints in the big leagues but hasn't been given much of an opportunity to this point.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Back in majors

The Guardians recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The 22-year-old prospect will return to the big leagues while Josh Bell spends a maximum of three days on the paternity list. Rocchio holds an .863 OPS in Triple-A this season through 207 plate appearances, but his minor-league success has yet to translate to the majors.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Returns to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

With Jose Ramirez returning from the bereavement list Friday, Rocchio will return to Triple-A to continue his development. The switch-hitting prospect went 2-for-10 at the plate in his first three major-league games and collected his first career RBI on Thursday. If he continues his .338/.396/.486 pace in Columbus, it's very possible Rocchio finds himself back in Cleveland before long, although he might need an injury in the team's infield to get consistent playing time.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Receiving promotion

The Guardians will recall Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

It's not clear at this point what the corresponding move will be. Rocchio was up with the big club briefly last month but didn't make an appearance. The 22-year-old is batting .338/.396/.487 with one home run and 10 stolen bases at Columbus this season. Rocchio has played both middle-infield spots in 2023 and has some experience at third base, as well. The top prospect would make for an interesting fantasy add if he played regularly, but there wouldn't seem to be a path to that right now.

  • Guardians' Brayan Rocchio: Gets first MLB start

Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

With Amed Rosario serving as the Guardians' designated hitter Wednesday, Rocchio will get the chance to pick up his first big-league start. After being called up from Triple-A Columbus when Jose Ramirez (personal) was placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move, Rocchio came off the bench to make his MLB debut in Tuesday's 8-3 loss, going 1-for-2 with a base hit. Rocchio will likely return to Columbus when Ramirez rejoins the Guardians in the next 2-to-6 days.
