Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Inefficient in no-decision
Cecconi didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals, allowing one run on three hits and five walks over four innings. He struck out four.
The right-hander was able to limit the damage, but Cecconi needed 87 pitches (52 strikes) to record his 12 outs before being lifted from a 1-1 tie. The walks equaled his total from his first three starts of 2026 combined, and Cecconi will take a 5.03 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB through 19.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Astros.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Yields four earned in Friday's loss
Cecconi (0-2) took the loss against Atlanta on Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three across 5.1 innings.
Cecconi held Atlanta to one run through five innings and was brought out for the sixth, but that's where things fell apart for the 26-year-old right-hander. He gave up hits to each of the first four batters he faced in the frame, including a solo homer and a two-run long shot to Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson, respectively. Cecconi was subsequently lifted, but he did not get enough run support from his teammates to avoid the loss. He has yielded at least four earned runs in two of his first three starts of the season and has a 5.74 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 15.2 innings to open the 2026 campaign. Cecconi is slated to start next week at home against the Cardinals, when he'll look to capture his first victory of the season.

The right-hander bounced back in a big way following his season debut, when he surrendered six runs in 4.1 innings against the Mariners. Cecconi yielded a lone hit and fired 55 of his 85 pitches for strikes Sunday, and he perhaps benefitted from the elements of a chilly afternoon at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Cecconi has a difficult assignment in Atlanta slated for his next start, which might limit his streaming appeal.

Cecconi won't make his scheduled start against the Cubs on Saturday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Chicago and Cleveland will make up Saturday's contest in a doubleheader Sunday, and Cecconi is penciled in to start the early game, per Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. The 26-year-old righty got off to a poor start to the season by allowing six earned runs in 4.1 innings during his season debut against the Mariners last Sunday.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Velocity down Sunday
Cecconi said Sunday that he woke up feeling under the weather, which resulted in diminished velocity, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Sunday's results were discouraging after Cecconi's preseason work suggested a pitcher about to take the next level. "I gave everything I had. Just all my velocities were down," Cecconi said. "Still, I think I executed pretty well. I think they got a few runs on some executed pitches and a few that weren't." His four-seamer averaged 92.3 mph, down two ticks from 94.3 it registered in 2025. In addition to reduced velocity, the right-hander also walked three and hit two batters. Cecconi will look to rebound this coming weekend against the Cubs.

Cecconi made his third Cactus League appearance and dealt with traffic in all four innings. He induced two double-play groundouts to squelch a couple of potential rallies. Cecconi had two scoreless frames in his second Cactus League outing before Wyatt Langford took him deep in the third. The Rangers worked counts in all three innings, and the right-hander's day was done after 52 pitches (33 strikes). Cecconi is much more established than he was in 2025, when he was new to the Guardians. Coaches reworked his mechanics and pitch mix, per Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, adding a cutter and increasing his slider usage. The cutter was particularly effective Monday, generating six whiffs on 12 swings.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Works out of trouble
Cecconi allowed three hits and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Wednesday's spring start against Texas.
Cecconi made his Cactus League debut and was immediately forced to work out of jams. He was aided by a runner being thrown out at home plate, and he also stranded a runner at third base in the first inning and second base in the second. The good news was he didn't issue any walks, and he was around the zone (20 strikes among his 30 pitches). After serving in a hybrid starter/reliever role for the Diamondbacks in 2023 and 2024, Cecconi was a full-season starter for the Guardians in 2025. Results were mixed, but the right-hander showed enough to keep him in Cleveland's plans for the rotation in 2026.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Records seven outs in Game 3
Cecconi didn't factor into the decision during Thursday's loss to the Tigers, giving up one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out three batters across 2.1 innings.
Cecconi kept the Tigers off the board through the first two innings of the game with little trouble, but back-to-back singles from the Tigers in the third were all manager Stephen Vogt needed to see to take his starter out of the game after just 47 pitches. Reliever Tim Herrin allowed one of the inherited runners to score, preventing Cecconi from finishing his Guardians postseason debut unblemished. With Cleveland now shifting its focus to the 2026 campaign, Cecconi should have a good chance at cracking the Opening Day rotation after turning in a 4.30 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 132 innings in the regular season.

Guardians' Slade Cecconi: Settles in after dismal first frame
Cecconi (7-7) took the loss Friday against the Rangers, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out three.
It was a pivotal game for the playoff-hopeful Guardians, but Cecconi was unable to deliver a positive performance. It was his shortest outing since Aug. 10 against the White Sox, though the right-hander at least managed to settle in for three scoreless innings after giving up all of his runs in the first. Cecconi will finish the regular season with a decent 4.30 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 109:32 K:BB over 132 innings, turning in 11 quality starts in 23 outings.
