The Charlotte Observer reports that the Bobcats have brought in free-agent Tracy McGrady for a few workouts and have some "exploratory" interest in signing the former All-Star.
McGrady averaged 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per 36 minutes last season with Atlanta, but logged just 16 minutes per game. He did have his moments, but was noticeably quiet in the playoffs despite playing ony one fewer minute per game.
The Bobcats are shopping for upgrades, well, everywhere, but specifically at small forward. They need some depth behind Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and McGrady would provide MKG with a good model for versatility and how to conduct yourself as a veteran, provided he doesn't ask about how to let a club know you're having surgery.
The Bobcats are at least targeting people, though, and even with McGrady's limited ability at this point in his career, there's no reason to think he wouldn't help a team that had the worst winning percentage in NBA history last season.
