Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns: Limited to five points
Towns contributed five points (2-4 FG, 1-3 3Pt), five rebounds and two assists across 15 minutes in Monday's 120-97 preseason loss to the 76ers.
Towns, who's reportedly frustrated by the lack of contract talks before the start of the 2026-27 regular season, joined the projected regular New York starters but saw limited involvement and production in a brief 15-minute cameo. There's little to take away from such a light preseason workload, and Towns remains positioned to operate as one of New York's primary offensive options once the regular season gets underway -- even if he's frustrated by off-court, contract-related issues.

Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns: Frustrated by contract talks
Towns expressed frustration Sunday regarding his ongoing contract negotiations with the Knicks, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
"Simply put, I want to do something that can keep the team together, and that can work with the Knicks and also values me," Towns said. "And, I mean, none of those things have come close to happening." Towns is eligible for a four-year extension worth roughly $277 million and has indicated a willingness to take less than the maximum to help New York retain its championship core, but the Knicks have reportedly offered around $200 million. The 30-year-old remains under contract for 2026-27 and holds a $61 million player option for 2027-28, so the stalled negotiations don't create an immediate availability concern.

Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns: Set for more playmaking
Towns could see his playmaking responsibilities expand this season as New York looks to build on an adjustment that proved effective during last year's playoffs, Jared Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
Head coach Mike Brown indicated that the Knicks intend to feature Towns at the elbow more frequently, allowing the big man to facilitate with the ball in his hands. The approach could give Towns more opportunities to create for teammates while opening additional actions for OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges away from the ball.

Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns: Extension talks at standstill
The Knicks want Towns to take a pay cut on a potential contract extension, per Stefan Bondy of The New York Post.
Towns is under team control for 2026-27 before having a player option for 2027-28. Jalen Brunson is eligible for an extension next year, so Towns may have to settle for a discount in order for New York to maintain its championship core in the future. The star big man appears to be a pretty safe second-round pick in fantasy drafts this year, having averaged at least 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and nearly one steal while shooting at least 50 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the charity stripe in back-to-back seasons for the Knicks.
