Daniels was particularly active on the glass, collecting a game-high 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards, to secure a double-double despite an inefficient shooting performance. However, his ability to contribute without relying exclusively on scoring remains a significant part of his fantasy appeal. Daniels will open the season in a starting role in the Hawks' backcourt, where his three-point shooting, defensive contributions and elite rebounding ability will make him a valuable fantasy asset across most formats.

Hawks' Dyson Daniels: Quiet in preseason opener
Daniels finished with six points (2-6 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-5 FT), four rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes during Monday's preseason loss to the Grizzlies.
Daniels struggled from three-point range and the charity stripe before sitting out the second half along with most of Atlanta's starters. Despite the quiet opener, Daniels should continue filling a prominent two-way role for the Hawks this season.

Hawks' Dyson Daniels: Shot expected to improve
Hawks president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh called Daniels "one of the most impactful players in the NBA" and an "all-world defender" while expressing confidence that his shooting will improve, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Daniels remained highly productive across the board in 2025-26, averaging 11.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.0 steals in 33.2 minutes across 76 regular-season appearances, but he connected on just 18.8 percent of his 1.5 three-point attempts per game. Despite the lack of perimeter shooting, Daniels shot 51.7 percent overall and earned a spot on the All-Defensive Second Team. Atlanta's continued confidence in his offensive development is encouraging heading into 2026-27.

Hawks' Dyson Daniels: More competition for minutes
Daniels may face increased competition for minutes in Atlanta's backcourt after the Hawks drafted Kingston Flemings with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Atlanta also brought in Aaron Wiggins via free agency, adding another player who will require minutes in the Hawks' backcourt. Daniels saw 46 percent of his minutes at the shooting guard position last season, but that number may dip with Wiggins and Flemings in the mix. Daniels' role will be worth monitoring throughout training camp and the preseason.

Hawks' Dyson Daniels: Ejected from Game 6
Daniels was ejected from Thursday's Game 6 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs against the Knicks following an altercation, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports. He'll finish with three points (1-4 FG, 1-3 3Pt) and one steal in 15 minutes.
Daniels and Mitchell Robinson got into a scuffle while lining up for a free-throw attempt, and it took players from each team to put an end to it. After the officials reviewed the play, Daniels and Robinson were both tossed from the matchup. Daniels' absence shouldn't have much of an impact on the outcome, as the Knicks owned a commanding 72-22 lead in the second quarter at the time of his ejection.

Daniels had his fingerprints all over this game on both ends of the court. Through three playoff games, he's shooting 36.8 percent from the field while averaging 6.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.7 steals.
